They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

I look forward to two days of restrained, rational discussion.
To kick things off, it will be interesting to see who the Red Sox call up to replace Walden. Mejia and Lakins have both been pretty good, but to call up Mejia they would have to commit as he's out of options. Also, depending on the level of sickness, yesterday showed that maybe the current roster isn't right for carrying a 13th pitcher and that this team could really use Tzu-Wei Lin. So anyway, if it's Lakins or Lin who is up, I think either will be back down soon. If it's Mejia, to me it's a signal that Tyler Thornberg is on a very short leash.

Yesterday I assumed it was an arm coming up, but I thought that Lin hadn't been down for 10 days. He has, so it could be him.

It's really hard to be optimistic right now.
... and yes, sad thought it is, I think that's rational.

Interesting to start the thread off with who will be replacing Walden since i didn't see anything anywhere about Walden. Was he DFa'd also?,or just sent down.

Need Sale and Mookie to set a tone starting tonight. Enough is enough lets go. Agreed Need some patience and competitive atbats from Mookie tonight. Need to see an uptick in velocity, a bit more command, and sharper slider from Sale. Would love to see some early swing and misses

Not terribly happy about any of the news today - DFAing Swihart, adding Sandy and Ramirez. Hoping I am wrong, but this could just be one of "those seasons".

I will miss part of this first game. I am a member of town government where I live and our commission (Inland Wetlands) meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Normally I get very annoyed at missing any part of a Red Sox game (especially against the MFY's) but my heart just isn't into it tonight. I really hate the business side of baseball sometimes...

Not terribly happy about any of the news today - DFAing Swihart, adding Sandy and Ramirez. Hoping I am wrong, but this could just be one of "those seasons". Same. Frankly, they just look like a “bad” team, in essentially every way right now. They’re among the five worst teams in baseball in terms of record based on run differential, and more disconcertingly, they’ve *looked* that part in play. They’ve seemed to have made some poor choices over the winter and then during ST that are leading to some poor choices now. Worst of all, they seem disjointed and fractured and just...not fun to watch. They’re not a likable team right now. And it’s not the “losing,” exactly...if they were 6-11 but had, say, a -5 run diff and had lost a bunch of close games, we’d all probably feel pretty confident in some serious positive regression. But they’re getting smoked, often, and by mediocre to bad teams. TOR, AZ, and yesterday by an absolute mess of a BAL squad. They took baseball’s most struggling player and managed to make him a minor folk hero. There has been very, very little positive to point to so far. I obviously believe in them because of the talent level, and what they did last year...but talent alone isn’t going to make up for bad play. It’s concerning, to say the least.
