Chavis leans into a 3-0 middle middle Fastball and launch it 434 ft deep. Based on prior hr distances, he must have caught this one toward the end of the bat ..

A couple of observations. Interesting name for Down East (besides the Down East), Josh Advocate. Our indyball pickup Ryan Fitzgerald is off to one hell of a start. Salem into extras and the start a man at 2B BS Fitzgerald's prior seasons show him with a pretty decent stick. Also what about Juan Centeno? I understand he's a decent catcher defensively and his historical offensive stats are certainly satisfactory albeit with little power. I would not be surprised to see him in Boston this year, particularly if we remain in purgatory.

If Duran keeps hitting does he get moved up a level this summer? Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: His BABIP is floating around .500 right now - but with his contact skill and speed to beat out maybe a single a week, it's going to play up at that level. But... we're talking about a guy hitting in the .380's right now. Him coming back down to the .300-.320 range is still pretty exciting. So, also yes. On the last day of our Fort Myers trip, we kind of agreed that the idea of him being a September call-up this year wasn't really likely but also wasn't crazy. Given his set of skills, the fact he hasn't met resistance yet, and Dombrowski's aggressiveness, he could climb the ladder quickly. If Duran can handle CF defensively, I do think his timeline meshes up with being JBJ's offensive replacement. He could even slide into the leadoff role come 2021. He's be 24 by then, I believe. I don't think he'll be a star, but I think he'll hit enough to be a .280ish hitter, with really good speed, and some gap power (speed converted into doubles and some triples). I think Duran winds up in Portland for the 2nd half of the season, plays in Pawtucket for 2020 and is up at some point by the end of next season, and is in line to replace JBJ by then.

Given his set of skills, the fact he hasn't met resistance yet, and Dombrowski's aggressiveness, he could climb the ladder quickly. Kind of surprised nobody has reacted to this. If he gets himself to Portland midseason, which is not out of the question, he absolutely puts himself into the conversation to be a September call-up as a pinch runner. We understand that he's already got Cora's eye. He's easily got double-plus speed that could make him a weapon off the bench. That said, they have to be in contention, of course...

Poyner faced 10 batters tonight: He struck out 6, walked 2 and gave up a dinger to 1. I love that kind of TTO staff lol Speaking of the homerun given up by Poyner. Holy Mother of Jesus. Amazingly it was on a 0-0 count lol Poyner gave up 4 fingers in the Majors last year (Gomez, Gurriel Jr, Voigt, Judge) and all of them were on a 0-0 count!

A few days ago he was organizational depth. Vazquez appears to be coming on but he's 28 and could be organizational depth on another team. In sum, none of these guys is lights out at the dish. But if Leon is stuck hitting as he did the second half if last year, i.e. under .100, Centeno could be called on. His milb batting stats don't suggest he be banished to the baseball gulag.

I suppose part of the problem is that "he's 29-year-old org depth" and "he might be better than Sandy Leon" aren't mutually exclusive.

Let’s face it. We got screwed in the catcher department by the horrific tragic death of future superstar Daniel Flores.
