Is that the highest known EV ever for a player in his first MLB PA? Probably not, but it has to be up there. That throw was a laser. Vaz is all the way back.
I had the same thought. That was the guy we saw before the elbow surgery -- a disruptive force back there.

xwOBA adjusted for opponent quality and balls hit to CF. Number at the end is leverage-adjusted WPA per 60 IP.
.202 Barnes (2.23)
.236 Velazquez (0.15)
.272 Workman (-1.39, killed by the one NY outing)
.272 Walden (1.46)
.319 Brewer (-3.93)
.329 Hembree (0.66)
.352 Brasier (2.96)
.357 Thornburg (1.04)
Velazquez is presumably in the rotation while Porcello is out, so at present there's room for everyone here plus Poyner or someone else. But if folks get healthy and there's a roster squeeze, Walden in stating a case to stick around over Thornburg.
Brasier scares me. He's been getting the job done in large part due to a .240 BABIP, but Statcast says that's all luck. OTOH, he could start pitching like last year at any point.

Brasier and Barnes have both pitched the first two series games. The assumption is they won't be available today. Here's hoping Price goes deep into the game.

Get to see Chavis today and how he looks at second base in a major league uniform. He's starting there today against Glasnow.

That was also a great baserunning by Jackie to know even Kiermaier wasn’t catching up to that.

No Austin Meadows for today's game. He is now on the IL with a sprained thumb.

A sweep here would almost erase the awful start. 5 games back looks a lot better with Meadows now going down and the Judge going down for a long time with a oblique strain.
Add- I wonder why statcast has Chavis' line drive at 108.7 and MLB has it at 109.1? I wonder which is more accurate?

If Chavis can play 2B better or at least equal to Nunez, I would give him a long look here to see if his bat and defense are ready for a daily 2B role.

Missed the game but it looked like an exciting one. Can't wait for the redemption tour to continue. Take back what is ours. Need Porcello to be decent, Sale to be outstanding, Eovaldi to return shortly and healthy and at least one more very good relief pitcher for the good times to roll. Can't fool ourselves.... If they can grab Geo for less than $5M I'd do it. Gives you another decent starter and he'd be a hell of a pen option, esp as an opener or 2-inning guy - if they don't need a 6th man, which they always seem to need anyway.

Glasnow looks like a monster on the mound at 6'8," I don't know why or how the Pirates gave up on him.

Glasnow looks like a monster on the mound at 6'8," I don't know why or how the Pirates gave up on him. He couldn't throw strikes. Much better with the Rays' strike zone. MLB really wants to keep a team in Tampa and will do anything to make that happen.

Was that a missed hit and run or is Devers just dumb?

The Yankees are basically missing their entire lineup and still score more than us and keep winning. wtf

Was that a missed hit and run or is Devers just dumb? it was a straight steal, but he left a touch early. He had just swiped second base; Glasnow is very slow to home plate.

106 MPH on that grounder... Chavis smokes the ball So he has an average EV of about 107.5 now or so. I bet that's highest in MLB history right now.
