The other side to the coin that Chris and telson speak of is that he's basically a gap to gap hitter in his approach. That might change with Portland and Boston's monster walls. He certainly has enough bat speed to reach the wall going the other way and that might actually increase his xbh's. Salem has no close walls.
As far as BABIP goes, I understand the general principle but to summarily dismiss the outliers you would also have to either make a statement that Tony Gwynn was the luckiest man that ever lived or that BABIP is a skill.

Yeah, I've maintained this for a long time. An even better example is Rod Carew... .359 career BABIP. Ted Williams was .328 (and that discounting 521 dingers!). Gwynn was .341. On the opposite end, all the guys that hit .230-.250 for longish careers weren't just darn unlucky...a bunch of Joe Btfsplks. BABIP is clearly some likely unquantifiable combination of skill (hand-eye, ability to barrel), exit velo, some ability to direct the ball and plate discipline (swinging at 'better' pitches). Over short periods, luck would play to a degree...but that would evaporate over time. In baseball maxim, 'things even out'.

NYPL defenses are awful typically. I'm at the point where I ignore Lowell numbers sometimes almost as much as I ignore GCL stats.

I almost made the same mistake, but I think that's an old photo from their April 12 game - the 75th anniversary of D-Day. They posted a photo on the Salem Instagram that night with Joan Martinez and Jonathan Ortega modeling the threads. EDIT: Oh, nevermind, they apparently wore them again. Military anniversary on the 26th I'm not thinking of? EDIT2: Just realized they wore them on two Friday nights. Very possible they do military appreciation nights on Fridays. They're auctioning the jerseys on Sept. 1, so wearing them multiple times makes sense to drum up interest.

I imagine they'll also have special unis for Thursdays when they'll be the Salem Beer Mongers to celebrate the craft brewing industry in Roanoke Valley

The announcer said something about D-Day which I assume was referring to last year. What does April 12 have to do with D-Day ?
