Very good inning by Brasier. Threw strikes, then back in the dugout quickly...

Devers is hitting almost .300 and it has no fan fare to it. How does he have no homeruns? lol

What a strange set of stats for Workman - 12 2/3 innings, only given up 2 hits, but 12 walks. His stuff does look continually better - FB ticking up, killer curve...but kind of scary to see him work right now.

Devers would have had that infield hit by Benni.

Probably Thornburg time. This should be interesting.

Nevermind. Velazquez warming and getting in work before his next start.

Skipping Thornburg and going with Velazquez....is this writing on the wall for Thornburg? Would have been a good low leverage situation to have him work out some things. Thoughts?

Wow - we burned through our pen. Even in an apparent victory, some head scratchers.....ERod's short start with the ripple effect

Barnes comes in, 2 pitches game over.
Nice win seeing we spotted them 4. Not the best way to win a game but who cares about style points...

Wow...Xander with the save! Stars came out tonight - Mookie, Xander - and future stars, Chavis and Devers.
Start of a win streak???

Remember when someone argued that Barnes wasn't as good as what's his name last year?

Top of our pen so far
Brasier 14 games, 1 win, 6 saves, 1 hold. 13.2 IP, 12 K, 1.32 (last year clearly no fluke) Walden 10 games, 3 wins, 1 hold, 13 IP, 16 K (!!), 2.03 Workman 14 games 1 win, 5 holds, 12.2 IP, only 2 hits, 19 K (!!) but 12 BB, 2.13 Barnes 12 games, 2 wins, 2 saves, 4 holds, 12 IP, 3 BB, 23 K (!!), 2.25
Adds up to 50 games, 7 wins, 8 saves, 50 IP and 70 K. Looks pretty good to me.
Craig Who?
If we can lengthen our starters and get the offense regularly clicking....

Not sure I necessarily agree about the low-leverage aspect, but he's been used twice now in the last 14 days and one of those times was during a doubleheader. For comparison's sake, this was Colten Brewer's fifth appearance in the same time frame.

Not being a Negative Nancy.... being a realist..... the Sox are done for 2019. I am officially on record as saying " they are done" Play Chavis daily at 2b. Trade Porcello. Let D. Hernandez have a rotation spot. Bring LAkins and Feltman up. Cut Nunez. Offer Betts one last contract and if he declines... trade him now. THose are starters... Noted. (Fangraphs gave them a 47% chance of making the playoffs before today's win.)

Lol, went to dinner with a friend with them down 3-0, so it’s mice to come back to this. Few thoughts: I’m not sweating Workman’s walks. If you look at his pitch locations/use on savant, his command is actually pretty good. I think it’s largely a product of his using the 4FB up in the zone (or really, out of it), and the CB low/out. He hasn’t been particularly wild, and he’s giving up very few baserunners.
Barnes is the real deal.
Chavis is a better hitter than I think any of us thought, and I bet he puts up a wRC+ this season of 130. League’s gonna adjust soon but he’s been awesome. What a fantastic development.
Bogey, Betts, Beni are all underperforming a bit but there’s signs of life there. As the weather heats up so will they.
The rotation is a shambles with basically every question mark pre-season coming back negatively. Tough to imagine it continuing that way across the board, but I’m convinced it’s the SP, not the ‘pen, that’s key to revival of their playoff chances. Not great right now, but not hopeless either. This is still a team eminently capable of playing .600+ out. Still exciting to think of what they’ll be if they gel.

I guess you can option Lin if he comes back for Nunez, but I mean really. Let us not do that. Option Lin when Pedrioa is back. DFA Nunez.
It's going to get really awkward when Pedrioa and Holt are back. Then you're even thinking about DFAing Pearce at that point.

Pearce has had all of 39 ABs. Way too early to even think about DFAing him. His spring training got screwed up and his timing is off. If anything, he needs to play and if he does, I'm pretty sure he'll snap out of it and produce.
With Pedroia, even when he comes back, how long does he stay back?
The guy who might lose playing time with Chavis' emergence might be JBJ. The Sox can't afford at this point to give him 3 months to figure it out. He has to do it sooner or he risks losing some playing time.

Some people forget but he was the other guy that Ben Cherington traded away in the Jake Peavy deal. I might have the order of this wrong in the 3 way deal, but Cherington traded Jose Iglesias to then Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski for Avisail Garcia and Brayan Villareale (who got a ring walking the only batter he faced), and then he took Garcia and traded him along with Frankie Montas to the White Sox for Jake Peavy. And of course Peavy got his ring and was traded for the immortal Heath Hembree, who did get his own ring (and actually pitched scoreless extra inning relief in Game 3 of the World Series). We also sent J.B. Wendelken (now an A's bullpen mainstay) and Cleuluis Rondon to the White Sox in that deal.
The other trivia point is that the A's got Montas from the Dodgers for Rich Hill, after we failed to re-sign him, and Josh Reddick, years after we dealt him away as a redundant part despite Ryan Kalish's iffy chances of a comeback.
