Thornburg is pretty sad to watch - he just seems to have no consistency to locate at all. Can't even do garbage time cleanly.

Devers is now becoming scary good. He's figured it out very well.

Devers K rate is 18% or so. That is pretty amazing for a 22 year old facing major league pitching in this day and age. It feels like the skies the limit for him as a hitter.

Mitch Moreland in the top 10 in HR and RBI (approaching top 5). Who could have seen that coming?
Work to do now - Chavis to adjust and get out of his minislump...and JBJ to start one of his hot streaks (it seems to be coming, but slowly)

Xander's offensive profile has completely changed since Cora and the new coaching staff turned him away from being a slap hitter. Between Barnes and Xander, those have been the coaching staff's best development from a player's standpoint. This coaching staff has turned these guys into consistent great players. I'm sure the coaching staff deserves credit, but isn't part of it 1) he's healthy/probably getting a little stronger and 2) he's shown the league that he can also go the other way for a base hit?

Weber's pitch mix has good movement in opposite directions.

Well......Cora may have been right with the starters being held back in spring. The team is jelling. Watch out...baseball teams.

We are over .500. Run differential is +14. Hot hitters all over the line up. Hot starters emerging. Hot bullpen persists.
The run is on, folks! Only 4 games behind. Now, what happened in April???

Starting to get very, very excited about Devers. I know it's easy to say that in the middle of a scorching hot streak, but his approach has been so good this season.

What he won’t keep up is the 3.4% HR/FB rate. Expect a *serious* power surge as that regresses towards league average. He seems to have taken a BIG leap this year.

I can't prove it with pictures, but Xander's stance is completely remade from 2015/2016. He was crouched over and almost punching the ball back then. Now, he's more upright and driving the ball. With Barnes, it was all about adding deception from his fastball to his curveball. As seen here- I give the coaching staff full credit for this. The players to their credit keep producing with these changes in mind however.

Not much to complain about. Just wait for Thornburg to come in I guess. There would be less complaining about Thornburg if you know, he could actually make it through an inning unscathed.

Yeah, we're rooting for a winning team, which the 2019 Red Sox, with 20 wins and 19 losses, finally are.
And it's awesome they got some revenge on the Mariners by kicking them when they were down the way they kicked the Red Sox when the Red Sox hadn't realized the 2019 season had actually started.
It was nice to see the offense kick butt and it was great seeing E-Rod pitch very well.
I wonder when Cora reconsiders moving Devers to the #3 spot in the in order between Betts and Martinez.
Thornburg was Thornburg unfortunately. They can keep him for the time being but he doesn't make you want to keep him. Weber has pitched in two games and that journeyman minor leaguer has been a heckuva lot more impressive in those two games than Thornburg has been the entire season.
Hope the Sox can continue to swing the bats against a hittable King Felix, particularly considering that Sunday is the bullpen game.

In going 9-2, the Sox have a +50 run differential (80 RS, 30 RA). That would be tied for 3rd in MLB for the season.
Devers now at .314 / .390 / .436.
He was .246 / .343 / .295 in 71 PA before April 17 and is .367 / .427 / .544 in 89 PA since.

It's really a matter of when it's coming and not if it's coming with the Thornburg DFA situation. Cora hinted that the battle for a spot in the rotation is up coming on Sunday. He said it was between Velazquez, Weber, Smith, and a another arm that he left unclear. You wonder if that arm is Shawaryn coming up and taking Thornburg's spot come Sunday. I don't know how the rotation lines up for Shawaryn's next start however.

Seven Sox hitters are over .800 OPS and Vazquez is just below that. JBJ has a way to go. This is rather sensational for any team. Even though he hasn't had a hit in a while, Chavis still is the OPS leader.
The Sox bullpen is better than it was last year.
This is a very good team that I think will finish first again.

Even though he hasn't had a hit in a while, Chavis still is the OPS leader. The Sox bullpen is better than it was last year. This is a very good team that I think will finish first again. Since they hit their low point at 6-13, they've played 20 games of .700 ball, which is better than last year.
And they've done that entirely without Eovaldi, Johnson, Holt, and Wright, who all contributed to the .667.
Brasier and maybe Pearce seem like the only guys who may provide significantly less than they did last year. You have Barnes and especially Workman taking steps forward, plus Walden and Brewer, to offset the loss of Kimbrel and Kelly. You have Devers taking the expected step forward and Vazquez bouncing back as hoped for. And you have added Chavis.
Some contributions can be hoped for or expected from players who made none last year: Pedroia, Darwinzon and Marco Hernandez, Lakins, Shawaryn, Feltman et al. Maybe even Ryan Weber!
This is an extremely talented roster.
On an unrelated note, they don't need a 5th starter over the next 10 days. It seems as if the only reason they're going with a 9-man bullpen and a 3-man bench is that there's no position player on option worth calling up. But it will make filling the 4th rotation spot Sunday with a bullpen game entirely unproblematical. The next time they'll need a 4th starter, the following Saturday, I think they expect Price to be ready.
But then they'll need a 5th starter beginning on the 21st, so the question is whether they'll continue to go the bullpen route until Eovaldi or Johnson return. Smith and Weber are stretched out, but neither is a guy you'd want to have face a lineup a second time.

Eck made mention that Devers has shortened his swing recently, coinciding with his hot streak. Altho I've been too excited watching his smoking line drives to pay particular attention to that detail, I had always thought that his swing was long. It doesn't look like he is swinging 'from his heels' as much either. If true, perhaps those factors are related. Oh Happy Day.
Now if JBJ,....oh, never mind....
