Eck made mention that Devers has shortened his swing recently, coinciding with his hot streak. Altho I've been too excited watching his smoking line drives to pay particular attention to that detail, I had always thought that his swing was long. It doesn't look like he is swinging 'from his heels' as much either. Oh Happy Day. Now if JBJ,....oh, never mind.... Gluttony is one of the seven deadlies.

Oh good. I've been on late night plane flights so my circadian rhythm and senses are skewed.

Oh good. I've been on late night plane flights so my circadian rhythm and senses are skewed. Anymore, with day games being in the middle of my night (today's game starts at 1 am for me), I pretty much have no set schedule. I'm retired so I can just nap whenever I feel the need. I doubt if I've slept 5 hours continuously since about February.

I hadn't thought about this but...
Jen McCaffrey @jcmccaffrey
It was the elephant in the dugout every time Eduardo Rodriguez took the mound - he could never pitch seven full innings.
After a span of 31 starts and four relief appearances, he finally did it on Friday.
“Some in the dugout might say he graduated.”

But he hadn't done it in 31 starts, not never.

Ah OK, I didn't take the time to look at the data, agree that it's worded poorly. Haha, maybe that's why I hadn't thought about it.

In general I'm not super worried about Rodriguez going seven innings, what with the team always carrying an 8-man bullpen no matter how depleted the bench gets. But with both Price and Eovaldi down it is certainly a pick-up.

But with both Price and Eovaldi down it is certainly a pick-up. He regularly throws enough pitches to go seven, or even nine if he were a very efficient pitcher. I think that is the issue. If a guy hits 100 pitches it would be nice if he went 7 innings.

His swing and miss stuff comes and goes too often and he's also not great at pitching to weak contact. He's so close though to putting it all together.

If he were more efficient then he'd pitch more innings/deeper into games. Those are the same problem. Which, like I said, I don't even consider a problem in that sense of the term. Less than optimal sure, but I'm not going to quibble a good pitcher for being imperfect. He's basically a #3 (or very, very good #4) because he's the quality of a #2 without the efficiency to provide that kind of value.

Watching Eduardo pitching a gem then followed by Thornburg giving up missiles left and right is reminder to never ever trade valuable prospects for relievers no matter how good they are

Just let the pitcher field his position. He has a glove for a reason.

And it's a new game. Devers is not just on fire, he's on fire like an oxyacetylene torch. (about 3000 degrees Centigrade)
107 and 113 mph EVs in this game.
And Chavis has just missed two HR.

Kind of sad to see King Felix decline. He was probably the best pitcher in the league for a while, and Seattle never fielded a competitive team around him.
Attaboy Jackie!
