5/10-5/12 Red Sox vs. Mariners Series Thread

Wow, I hadn't even noticed that Porcello has only allowed the one baserunner on the popup error in the last 5 1/3rd innings. Great comeback. 0-19 before the walk. Includes the E-1 Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Alex Avila has been reinstated off the Injured List, the team announced Saturday. Infielder Ildemaro Vargas was optioned to AAA SWIHART is back to being the 4th catcher on the 25-man roster.

They mentioned Porcello possibly tipping his pitches in the first inning, so it’ll be interesting to see what they say postgame about it, especially considering his solid rest of the day.

Now, we're cooking. Watch out, Tampa and NY - here come the Red Socks (ha ha ha)....
After our terrible start, we are now 5th in run differential, second in runs scored, 5th in wins.

FYI: Redsox.com has Sunday starter as Velazquez
Edit: Swihart with a 2-run HR in the AZ loss.

The rest of the league is fully embracing that quote at the beginning of Liquid Swords, "my father wasn't scared of the shogun, but the shogun was scared of him". Felix started to decline overnight in his late 20s. I can't believe what we're seeing now. He used to own this team so bad. Do they know for a fact how old he really is?

Raffy stats looking mighty nice considering his first 10 games were brutal.

Great win and run for the team, amazing to see Raffy and the starters really stepping up. Raffy's truly headed on an Ortiz-lite path and its amazing to witness.

When this 10-2 streak started, we were 5.5 games behind the second wild card, with seven teams we needed to vault over. With the Indians losing today, we're now tied.
Only the Marlins, Royals, and Orioles have a current Win% worse than we had through 28 games. Only the Marlins and Tigers have a worse run differential per game. That's how bad we'd been.
Our +54 run differential over 12 games is equivalent to +171 in 38 games. The Rays have played 38 and lead MLB with +63.
MLB average R/G is 4.61. Our average margin of victory while going 10-2 has been 4.5 runs.

In short, we're playing like the best team in baseball, the one that beat up the Yankees, Astros and Dodgers en route to a Commando championship.

That monologue is taken from 1980’s “Shogun Assassin,” (how can you not love this trailer?! and it’s referenced in Kill Bill vol. 2, for which RZA did a bunch of original music. I never really fully appreciated Wu-Tang way back in the day, but they really were pretty amazing, pop culture refs and lyrical vocabularies, rhyming tempo, beats and soundscapes.

And the scary thing is aside from Chavis, Moreland, no one on the team is truly hot. I'd include Devers in there because when he gets hot it will be something like 15 HRs in two weeks.

I had a DAY, but the last two hours were a complete turnaround, and it was awesome. Coming home to read about another commanding Sox win was the capper. Devers really DOES look like the hitter he was touted as all those years ago. And really, they’re doing that thing they did last year when there always seemed to be a guy who picked the rest up. Mookie, Chavis, and Beni have an off night, Rafi catches fire and Moreland and Leon (?!) hit bombs. Porcello settles down (tipping or no), and the bullpen does the trick. If Mookie, Beni, JDM, and Bogey actually get HOT, and start looking like the first half last year, the offense will be terrifying, especially if Devers keeps going and Chavis makes the adjustments he’s looking like he’s going to be forced to make. The bad, BAD baseball of April is long gone it seems. This team is looking very good. Reminds me a bit of the Astros’ charge back last year.

What are the chances of them getting this game in? Looks like there might be a window with the rain.

That movie is absurdly awesome, the Wu-Tang Clan helped to get me into weird or corny action movies and I never got out of it. Japanese samurai cinema is basically a bizarro world version of italian westerns and I love it.

It would be interesting if something momentous happened in this game, such that we get to see the all pink catching gear for years to come...

What are the chances of them getting this game in? Looks like there might be a window with the rain. They removed the tarps. The line for heavy rain (on the forecast) is right on the edge for Boston. It might get heavy, it might not. It's like a 50/50 shot of getting rain delays in this game.

Probably a good game for a bullpen day with the forecast being what it is.

Good to escape that inning only giving up a single run.

I've mentioned this before, but one of my favorite baseball things is when a HR is crushed so hard that the outfielders don't even bother with the pretense of giving chase.
