That was the whuppin’est series I can remember. I was thinking the same thing. The series in Anaheim last April comes to mind. Sox swept the three games by scores of 10-1, 9-0, and 8-2.

Red Sox are 11-2 since kjkramer officially gave up on the team and called for trading Mookie Betts.
Fangraphs now has them as slight favorites to win the division, at 38%, and 81% to make the playoffs.

I’d forgotten that one (which is kinda sad cuz it was just over a year ago). The Angels, if I recall, were leading MLB in run diff to start that series, too. I can’t say enough about the apparent effect Chavis has had on this team. It’s night and day vs the first 3+ weeks of the season. Obviously, he wouldn’t provided *some* boost just statistically. But I really wonder if his personality, approach, excitement...kinda shook things up. Maybe a reminder of what they’re playing for. I’ve seen roughly 40 years of Sox teams, and I can’t really think of ANY that went from being so BAD (in every sense, from luck to execution to energy) to being so good. Even the ‘88 Morgan magic team...they weren’t so AWFUL before that run. The turnaround has me even more excited than last year’s hot start. I feel like the best is still to come.

I mean, Chris was even warning about a Chavis demotion yesterday if he didn’t bust the slump. Slump busted.

I can't say how much I enjoyed seeing the Red Sox kick the crap out of the Mariners. Not that I have anything personally against Seattle, but except for that one slipup in the 2nd game where Strickland was injured and blew a 9th inning lead, the Mariners kicked the crap out of the Red Sox, slamming HRs in every direction.
Well, turnabout is fair play, and the Red Sox did exactly THAT to the Mariners. They crushed them, and they were cruel about it. They really rubbed it in, a 14-1 humiliation, a 9-5 comeback win where the Ms had their hopes up after a 4 run 1st inning before the roof caved in on them in the 3rd inning, and an 11-2 beating where the Ms defense was so jagged (again) they literally were beating themselves before the Red Sox poured it on them.
I hope the Red Sox can show that kind of vengeance to NY.
It's good to see the Red Sox offense clicking and it does have the potential to be even better. It could be a better offense than last year even when JDM and Mookie were epic. This year it's a deeper lineup. Chavis has been a difference maker.
Moreland, even with his big dropoff looming, might still whack 30 plus HRs, Devers is blossoming before our eyes, Chavis of course, and Christian Vazquez looks like a new man (and if so, despite the way I don't like how they handled Swihart, you have to give them credit for judging Vazquez to be THE GUY.).
They need Pearce and JBJ to get things figured out. They can struggle now, but they'll need Pearce for when Moreland takes his summer vacation at the plate, but at least this year they have options if Pearce can't get it together or JBJ remains lost. The Sox have the ability to minimize JBJ offensively, particularly if Pearce picks it up or Pedroia or even Holt comes back well. And I do expect JDM and Mookie to pick up the pace a bit although I don't expect last season's pace.
They just need to get Price and Eovaldi back healthy and hope that Chris Sale is the Sale of old as he looked his last two starts. E-Rod is hopefully taking a step forward although with him you can't count on it - yet, and Porcello has pitched better.
Barnes, Brasier, Workman, and Walden with Velazquez's help gives them something to work with. They'll need another arm or two, but they should be able to continue to play better ball.
The AL is weak. With Oakland struggling, Cleveland is their main competition to making the playoffs. I do anticipate that both Wild Cards will come out of the AL East. If TB has Snell and Glasnow get healthy, they're extremely dangerous and the Yankees keep winning despite the injuries, so the Sox have their work cut out for them to catch both teams, even though numerically it's doable.
I suspect the Sox will have more bumps in the road, but I think they can win 93 games this year and claim one of the wild cards, although it's not out of the realm of possibility that they do better (or worse). I would say 93 wins are the new middle ground for them.

I dont understand this list, at all. It’s so that if one of these teams trades for him, he can demand an extension in exchange for waiving his no trade clause.

Rafi makes it 4, I have a feeling. And in style. Also, my daily reminder that Marcus Walden is awesome. If it weren’t for Chavis going silly, Walden would be the surprise of the year. A very effective, whiff-minded 4-pitch multi-inning reliever who’s not intimidated in high leverage. The real deal.

Devers ranks 19th of 182 players (minimum 75 PA) in xwOBA starting April 15. He's a fraction behind JDM for the team lead in that stretch.
Starting April 29, i.e. during the 11-2 run, there are 244 players with 30 or more PA. Sox ranks in xwOBA:
Devers 7
Martinez 11 Moreland 15
Betts 30 Vazquez 79
Bogaerts 98
Chavis 116
Benintendi 124 Bradley 141

Last year's team: Catcher: 0.8 fWAR 2nd Base: 0.4 fWAR 3rd Base: 0.3 fWAR I think this year's team can get 9 Wins out of these 3 positions if not more. That could upset the inevitable loss of wins that Sale, Mookie and JDM were going to lose because they were so unbelievably good last year and you can't bank on them maintaining that level of awesomeness for a second year in a row. Still feeling pretty good about our chances for a 100+ wins season.

Also, Mookie has been the Mookie of last year since 4/19. Love the 19.8% walk rate! The lack of steals is curious though.

I read that he could also ask for a bump this year just to approve the trade. I think he would be better off hitting FA than limiting himself to the team willing to make the trade.

I'm just being conservative with my projections here but of course they can play better as a team than last year's but slumps happen yada yada Let's just hope for staying healthy and we'll be fine. As I said during the team slump, there's too much talent/upside, youth and work ethic than I expect them to dominate for good stretches to offset that slump (Should be called a gamble instead tbh)
