Didn't want to put this in the injury links thread, but can someone explain what the difference is, regarding Groome, between throwing off flat ground and off a mound? Is there just more stress on the arm coming off the mound because you get a little more momentum?

Granberg has doubled and homered tonight. Also stole home in a double steal. Batting .316 with an .896 OPS now in Greenville. He’s a guy that needs a promotion to Salem, but I’m not sure where the playing time is. Probably would split time between 1B, LF, and DH.

Two HR for Dalbec... so far. They are also the only two hits for Portland thru 7. Ockimey has a pair of Home Runs as well. Salem postponed. Machamer with the wild and crushed combo.

Thru 11, Dalbec still has the only three Portland hits and all XBH. What are the odds....

Unpopular (maybe, I have no idea) opinion that I hope I'm very wrong about: send out game tape of this game and trade Dalbec tomorrow for everything you can get. I just don't believe he's going to make contact anywhere near enough to be an MLB starter. His power is nearly unprecedented, but his K numbers are actually unprecedented for anyone with MLB success, I believe.
Again, just an opinion I hope I'm very wrong about, because he seems like a good kid and would be great to have that bat rake in Boston. But he could also be an asset that is held on to for way too long, see Swihart, Blake.

Sam Travis in the middle of a decent hot streak. .342/.390/.579/.969 over his last ten games. OPS on the season up to .762. I still think that’s a major league hit tool, but I don’t see the fit on the Red Sox.
Josh Ockimey hit two home runs today which is awesome. The more impressive thing is that he hit them both off of lefties. He hit two homers off of left-handers all last year and had nine career total.
Rio Gomez is another guy from Greenville that should get a look in Salem. He split time in Lowell and Greenville last year. In 20 innings, he’s got 27 Ks to only 3 walks with a 0.70 WHIP and 1.35 ERA. His stuff doesn’t look all that great from the scouting report, so I’m not holding my breath on anything but he’s interesting.

PawSox lost 9-8. 3rd BS and loss by Mejia I was hoping Mejia was going to be a useful piece in the bullpen at some point but it's not looking that way.

I was worried my comment would be taken with internet outrage (!!!) though looking over the other threads since I havent been here in 6 months, it looks like a lot of people also agree with that take.

Dalbec had four of Portland's six hits tonights with 3 HRs and a 2B, including a solo HR in the 12th, followed by Netzer's 2-run shot. Portland was ahead 7-3 going into the bottom of the 12th. A runner was placed on 2nd to begin the inning. Jordan Weems walked the next batter, then struck out two. He then proceeded to give up three singles and a triple to blow the game.

There is no comparison with Swihart, whose injuries slowed him down past the time of being a real prospect. Dalbec is a real prospect but I don't think a real value can be placed on him yet. If his K rate is of concern to you, what makes you think it wouldn't be to other teams? If he had a major league season like he had last year, albeit striking out a whole lot, he still would be a very valuable player who we would greatly regret playing for another team, especially if he were traded for a Thornburg,

I saw the PawSox highlights and Ockimey caught a pop up next to the first base dugout and took his time getting the ball back in while the runner at 3rd tagged and scored.

I think you have to decide now, before other teams catch on, if there's a team that loves him. That said the Sox know better than anyone what reasons there are to think decrease in swing and miss is real, and it wouldn't take a ton to make him a decent prospect.
