Cole has to be the worst matchup for a guy like Chavis. A guy with high velocity that can target the top of the zone against a hitter who likes it low. I though he might go knuckle curve on the 4th pitch but he just kept climbing the ladder. Welp...

Now that he’s been up a while he’s going to be getting a steady diet of letter high fastballs. I fear that the same swing that lets him generate such power is also one that isn't going to hit letter high fastballs. It's just not his swing path and it might be a big ask for him to change the swing that's got him here. I guess we'll see what he does as pitchers make adjustments.

Bogey. I like that extension. He may never be spectacular, but he’s pretty damn good. Me too, particularly if last season becomes typical going forward.

to piggyback on that, redsoxstats posted this before the game; astros are executing the gameplan

Re: Chavis, it’s sorta been the book as Eric Van notes, but he’s shown some ability to lay off. Also, the Astros love that style, and they teach it throughout the system. They also have (a questionable?) method to increase spin. So, as noted, bad pitcher and bad team matchup for Chavis. Let’s see how he adjusts. I think he’ll figure it out, though it might take a while.

With a stats wild rookie on the mound tomorrow, I'm pretty sure the Astros wanted more than 5 innings out of Cole.

If a run scored on a wild pitch strikeout, throw em out, is that an RBI ?

Personally I’d rather have Porcello up there at bat over Nuñez.

Nice offensive game for Vazquez.
I hope Walden gets a inning and Barnes gets a inning to end the game. Walden has earned it.

shades of Farrell leaving in a pitcher an inning two long these last few games...
