On May 14th (the first game at Colorado), Devers had a OPS that topped out at .870. His OPS is at .808 now. Has dropped 62 points in less than a week. On the other hand he's 22 and has an OBP over .370 despite being in a 1-for-17 slump. Seems to me he was hitting so well pitchers started giving him little to hit and he expanded his zone a bit. He'll figure it out and get right back on track.

JBJ is the Joe Kelly of hitters. He gets out of sync mechanically for long periods and then something clicks and he looks great for a spell. This is largely unrelated to pressure or quality of competition. Fortunately he also fields the ball. What you really hope for is his hot spells will come at the best of times.

Unbelievable, that Xander drove that pitch that far. Wow. Looked like a tough pitch to hit.

Have no idea how Xander hit that pitch that far.
And holy crap Devers just crushed that one.
This game is 12-2 and I think the Blue Jays got off lucky that it's only a 10 run game. They've been destroying the ball all game long. I don't remember another game with so many barrels.
445 feet for Devers, 114 mph.

Pearce looks like he may start coming alive. His swing seems to look quicker than in past games.

I guess that'll bump up Devers' OPS back up.

Bogey seems **right** on the cusp of something great. He’s never been a flashy defender, but he’s perfectly playable at short. But the bat...he just keeps making these incremental changes and it’s easy to forget he’s just 26. I like that extension more every day. This year, the BB rate is way up, to where he’s in .100 IsoD range. He’s got a legit shot at going .300/.400/.550, which is pretty tremendous for a SS. He’s so oddly easy to forget about on this team, but he’s really a consistent, key player. Kinda reminds me of ‘90s Bernie Williams. Not the first, or even second or third name you think of on a team, but a well-above-average player who does it year in, year out. If he keeps improving bit by bit like this, until the inevitable post-30s decline (and it could be mid-30s for him, given he’s grown and changed so much as a hitter), his contract is gonna be a huge steal and he’s going to have people start wondering about his HOF chances. He just needs those few big seasons.

I hope nobody ever messes with Raffy's swing. When he hits it, he hits it hard.

He just needs those few big seasons. Xander has become a professional hitter over the last few years. He use used to chase the outside stuff and sometimes be an easy out, once he stopped doing it he became a very tough out and the guy opponents didnt want to see with RISP. I agree the extension looks great.

I hope nobody ever messes with Raffy's swing. When he he hits it, he hits it hard. Only the 4th player this year with 3 balls hit 110+ in a game this year. I swear, I would not be surprised to see him double his HR total tomorrow going from 4 to 8. I don't know that I've ever seen someone on the Red Sox that hits so many balls as hard as he does.

Does this really look like a guy who isn't going to be at least a league average 3B someday?

Could any of our Pawtucket guys wrestle at bats away from Pearce, Nunez and JBJ? Nunez: I imagine he gets DFA'd when Holt and Pedroia come back. JBJ: Castillo may hit slightly better, but he'd play far worse defense to boot, so I don't think it's worth it. Pearce: Wrestle a bat away from the reigning World Series MVP? No thank you.

Great game all around. Nice to see Chavis hit another one and Devers is starting to hit them with more regularity and Xander quietly has 8 homers. He has a shot at 30.
Really good to have Price back. Hopefully the Sox can take 3 of 4 against the Jays.

The Sox are not going over the luxury tax limit to play Rusney Castillo. He's not even an option at this point.
