I am kind of curious as to why the sox took Cannon over McConnell. I know they have their reasons, but seems like Brady is an even better hitter. Maybe they see Cannon as a Pedroia type hitter haha

Schunk to Colorado has me pretty disappointed, but Strumpf is still around.
EDIT: crap

Maybe they talked money some and are trying to get as many value players as they can. Cash is the biggest problem this year. I think there is a good chance they can sign him at a lower than slot deal, or slot at max, and have some money left for some other players they think are reasonably priced.

This came into my mind as well. I have a hard time thinking they valued him as a player over a few others still available. Like I stated earlier it may be their "safe" depth option with Pedroia likely done, but think it more has to do with money available. He is likely the type to take slot or just under.

If it were an out of nowhere pick that seemed like it was in reaction to a high school player falling I'd maybe believe this a little more but they've been connected to Cannon for a little while now so it seems like they were just straight up interested in him.

He was projected in a lot of mocks to go toward the end of Round 1 or the sandwich round. I was starting to wonder if he's signable at this stage in the 2nd round....here's to hoping he is!

Sox went with the high floor pick with the 43rd pick and the high ceiling with the 69th pick

Just looking at the espn draft and seeing one asterisk after the Sox then looking at the corresponding meaning of the one asterisk as "For not signing Gunnar Hoglund" ? Haven't been following drafts as closely, but that must be a typo? Feel like I'd remember not signing a high draft kid. Also read Ringer article about top kid and college catchers. The Pirates drafted a kid from Boston College with the fourth pick in the 2009 draft? Whaat? How can I not remember that?

Like the 2nd round pick better, but what was the stat somebody posted the other day? 60% of first round picks make the show and only like 50% of second rounders? The reality is that in the MLB draft its all a crap shoot. So lets stock the system and see what we can do with em.

Have PR guys ever really been signability issues? I can't think of one off the top of my head, could just be random but I wonder if there's a different mindset coming out of those academies.

Now thats a pick! Lugo is that high upside gem we all love to get haha. Smart play here where they can use the slot value to advantage. Ultimately we can be happy where its the equivalent of technically Lugo as sox first pick and taking Cannon in late 2nd...with money advantage.
