I like the pictures of the MLB 200 prospects. Is it just me, or does Cannon look like Pedroia?

MLB draft is like throwing dice. Nobody can predict the outcome. Judge was picked 32 by the Yanks with nothing special numbers. We picked Chavis well before him in the same round. With all the hype about our picks last year, who would have predicted that our best pick would come in the 7th round? Betts went in the 5th, as you know. So, reading about our picks this year and figuring out how good they are is a futile exercise. It will take at least 2 years to know.
This is so different from the NFL draft where draft picks end up starting the same year. It takes about 4 years for a future major leaguer to hit the Show. Sometimes longer. Most of the time never. Which is why I refuse to get all excited about any of their picks. At this point they’re just names.

Not sure what round he’ll go in, but Jake Wallace (UConn reliever) was insane against a good Oklahoma St offense. Really like him as a bullpen prospect.

Sometimes its hard not to get excited, other times, they're kind of meh. Thats part of the fun of being a fan.

Some scattered Day 2 thoughts:
- I do think the Sox will follow the tradition of selecting a pure reliever at some point today and potentially another college reliever/swingman with potential to start in Greenville next year. That said, I'm not enamored with Matt Cronin and don't think he will be available by #107 anyways.
- It will be interesting to see where the senior signs occur. You can typically count on two of the picks from Rounds 7-10 to be senior signs, and these guys are usually straight org players. That said, I'm crossing my fingers that they find one in Rounds 3-5 who actually has mild interest as a prospect (e.g., Mangum) and can generate more savings from the greater bonuses tied to the earlier picks. I'm expecting three senior signs today overall.
- We've heard this draft is deep in HS players singable in the $200K-$500K range. The Sox typically are aggressive in this demographic but their ability to do so is impacted by a couple of financial questions, mainly 1) How much extra $ can they generate from senior signs?, 2) How much will the Cannon/Lugo combo cost? I'm expecting one HS pick today, probably receiving $100-200K more than their slot position. Hopefully they can create enough savings to pull this off and have a little left over to work with in Rounds 11-40 tomorrow.
- Some random players I have my eye on in Round 3: Jake Sanford, OF/1B, Western Kentucky; Ryan Zeferjahn, RHP, Kansas; Ryan Pepiot, RHP, Butler; Graeme Stinson, LHP, Duke

And we're off, Orioles take Zach Watson (Red Sox 40th rounder last year).

Chances Matthew Allan signs with the Mets? I'd assume they just plan to sign seniors from here on out.

Chances Matthew Allan signs with the Mets? I'd assume they just plan to sign seniors from here on out. I'm not necessarily against that strategy. I'd rather shoot their shot now and sign seniors later (7-10) than the reverse. Signability concerns being noted of course.

If you don't sign a guy, I believe you forfeit that entire slot amount as well.
