Isn’t that kind of leaving the door open? “While Keane could sign with the Sox this year, he says he plans to attend Northeastern University on a baseball scholarship.” “Plans” does not = will. Money could change things.

So first off, I just wanted to say that every year the people on these forums impress me during draft time. Its seriously amazing that there are so many people that care enough about baseball to put it the ridiculous amount of research. After playing in college, I was offered a scouting job (baseball), but decided to turn it down (I have my reasons). That being said there are so many on here that know far more than I do about all this stuff, and it just baffles me. I love it! Anyways, this has to be one of the most intriguing draft classes I have seen from the Sox. I would say 2018 is one of my favorites by far (People know my love for Jarren Duran), and this year I am just as excited....but its completely different. I can't put my finger on it, but I am guessing I am mostly impressed with the mix of players they snagged. Mostly what I mean is having to do with their age, and where we took players from (College players vs HS etc). I have a feeling they are going to get a large portion signed like last year, but have an incredible mix of upside vs floor. My bet is that this class produces as many GOOD to GREAT players as the 2018 yet it is a completely different class. Well done sox. My guess as far as signings go?: I would say we get everyone we drafted in rounds 1-27/28, any seniors in the lower part, and 2 unexpected HS players from 28-40. The amount of leverage from their higher rounds certainly offers some flexibility in the lower ones to lure away talent yet. All the more impressive when you consider our cap allotment. We will have to wait and see of course, but considering the talent and lack of seniors and nepotism picks, I don't see how they are going to sign that many without blowing up the draft. I'm less optimistic about the top 10 bonuses than most. The big swing of course is Song's bonus.

Not a chance in hell we sign all of he guys from rounds 1-27. Not happening. Good chance we sign a lot of them, though.

I see 11-16 as being particularly troublesome also, 50% of our picks are ranked players.

Let one squeak through the cracks (Looking at you Lucky) and find a way with the others. I know its a crapshoot, but you have to think they had spoken with most guys 1-25 pretty extensively, and feel they can nab majority. My optimism comes from Song mostly. I just have a hard time seeing him get close to slot. There will be a fine line though. As he stated he has career 1A and 1B so it needs to be enough to sway him towards the sox, but he is a senior after all.

Yah. That whole article makes me think if the money is right he will sign. Doesn’t seem like one who is hell bent on going to college.

Yeah, VermontSox rocked this draft thread. Thanks for your diligence! Huge thanks to VermontSox as well. I will be celebrating by vacationing in Vermont starting tomorrow. My favorite place on earth!

Red Sox select Leon Paulino, CF, Florida Virtual School. Saw an interesting tidbit on him in the Keane article, he grew up in Lawrence, MA, moved to FL 3 yrs ago. Another "local" kid.

Yah. That whole article makes me think if the money is right he will sign. Doesn’t seem like one who is hell bent on going to college. Exactly. As of right now he doesn't have a contract on the table. Maybe expecting to go 4th or 5th round is one thing, but who knows. My guess is hes just not tipping his hand as of yet. He has all the leverage so it is the only smart thing to do (saying he will play college). It will create a sense of urgency or overpayment by the sox potentially. If he shows too much enthusiasm or anything then he will lose some of his leverage. I believe he does want to sign, but will make us pay a good amount. I can only imagine how difficult it is to be drafted in rounds 10-20. I only say this because its the most difficult decision for them if they believe their stock will go up. Its really hard to play into the top 10 rounds, and very easy to fall in the 30-40. So for anybody this would be very difficult.

I just want to echo what others have been saying.
Thanks Vermontsox1 and others.
Before this site I never paid too much attention to the draft/minor leagues.
Now I can't get enough of it.
I still don't pay attention to high school or college names too much - at least until a week or so until draft - only so many days in a week and so many other things to do to so I don't have the time to keep track of college/high school prospects.
But the guys right here make it really interesting as I catch up and anticipate and look forward to the draft - as it truly is now a must-see event for me.
It's the building of the Red Sox foundation as we've seen with the cores of the team being built.
Now I look forward to the signing period, the international draft signings - is that July 2nd? And of course I always enjoy the trade deadline - 7/31. Sometimes it's even more fun than the game on the field.
The guys at Soxprospects.com do a wonderful job. Thanks Chris, Mike, etc.....sorry if I missed people. It's appreciated.

Red Sox select Connor Prielipp, LHP, Tomah High School (WI). He lives nearby me, so I will try to see him in person. I have known about him for 2 years. In Tomah WI your warm weather exists for a more limited time compared to our other draft picks. This means he has had less time to develop and may be better than we expect. He will also need more time to develop. This is assuming he'll sign. I doubt this will happen.

Paulino looks taller than 6-3. And he looks like he could be a beast. It will be interesting to see how he turns out.

I mentioned Miller's teammate Cannon earlier, this guy has some plus power also. from BA: A 37th-round pick of the Braves out of Riverside (Calif.) JC in 2017, Miller teamed with Connor Cannon to give UC Riverside one of the country’s top power duos this spring. Thick and chiseled at 6-foot-2, 235 pounds, Miller boasts plus or better raw power and has increasingly tapped into it each year. He hit .365/.401/.650 while hitting 14 home runs. Miller is a bit stiff, isn’t much of a runner and is limited to the corner outfield, but his bat plays. He will go as far as his offense takes him.

At the Dodger Stadium pre draft invite workout Dean Miller was blasting shot after shot into the upper seats in left field bleachers. Then he batted left handed and almost hit the roof in right field pavilion. Scary thing was that it was a cold rainy day. During the regular season he had a top homerun exit velocity of 111mph and several at 110mph. Right handed he has pole to pole power. In the outfield he has great instincts and great first step combined with excellent closing speed. At the Dodgers workout he ran a 6.8 sec 60 yard dash. His arm clocked at 94mph from the outfield.
