Elio Prado with HR #3 on the season. Gonzalez and Feliz better be careful or they're going to get passed by. Prado also had a pair of BBs to 1 K, while Gonzalez hit a 2B (#4 on the year), a SB, and a BB to 1 K. Def can’t sleep on Prado, his line is *terrific*. Only 16.9% K rate, but a 16.9% BB rate too...for an outstanding isoD of .114. And with the HR, his IsoP is up to .237, which is awfully good for the DSL. Mix in 7/9 SB and a .339 BA...for a 1.027 OPS. Man, are those DSL teams fun to watch right now. And all of those high-performers (Prado, Bonaci, González, and Feliz) are under 18. Idk how they “look” beyond stat lines, what their tools grade out as, but damned if the future isn’t looking pretty bright right now in the low minors.

Howlett with his 4th HR ADD: He doubled in his second AB. His K rate is bad, but his walk rate is terrific, and he’s definitely been heating up. Still very encouraging at 19 in full-season ball; I imagine the K rate will start to come down a bit (from what I read, the swing-and-miss had a big part in his draft drop, but was a contact lens issue). I’m sure his patience as a part in those Ks too. He’s only got a .118 IsoP, but we know he has more power than that. Obviously there’s a contact-quality issue. But for a 21st rd HS pick to be doing what he has this year...I’m liking it.

One last thing: CDLG! I know he’s 26, but he’s got pop and his line in Pawtucket this year is insane. If he could just stay healthy, they might have a nice lil’ utility infielder with a solid bat on their hands. 11% walk rate and a 21% k rate are both solid, and he’s got a ridiculous .304 IsoP. Clearly, he digs the juicyball.

Howlett is up to .356/.483/.533 in June. Still too many Ks (19 in 60 PA), and the BABIP is silly, but very impressive still. I have him in my top 5 by the end of 2020. Not much of a limb, he could do that on attrition alone. Watching the game, his HR was an opposite field high fly type that cleared everything. It was the first HR allowed by the pitcher this year. I think he's going to end up with more power than projected. Nice swing, disciplined hitter, fast bat and big and athletic. Earlier in the year he hit one against Rome that traveled 440 feet. 19 year olds don't normally do that. Hard to explain but every time I see him he looks like a ringer, it's the little things, just doesn't look like a 19 year old pretty much anyplace. Last time I thought that was Tate Matheney at Greenville. I like him more than I liked Chavis at Greenville and I liked Chavis. Shugart looks like the scouting report except Lexington doesn't give radars. He uses all of his pitches anytime and so far hasn't had anything hit hard against him. Command looks decent enough as a mix across the boards. EDITADD: The 4th inning double off Shugart was well struck. Howlett's double was a fly to right center that went off the wall. Thru 5, Everlouis Lozada has made a number of decent plays on a bunch of choppy stuff hit his way. He almost made a spectacular play in the first off a pop-up to no mans land behind first base. He's also a lot bigger than his listed height and weight. I'm guessing maybe 5'10". MiLB says "Bats/Throws: S/R Ht: 5' 7" Wt: 150" No way... Legend's Cole (LH batter) 6th inning HR was pull side and nowhere near as deep as Howlett's. Howlett's HR cleared the building's where the Pepsi sign is on the roof. Cole's HR was down the line and landed where the pavilion building is: www.google.com/maps/@38.0659212,-84.4777347,69m/data=!3m1!1e3 After Shugart was finished, I Fast Forewarded to the bottom of the 8th. Jeison Guzman's HR was roughly equivalent to Howlett's. It was given as 372' but again, wasn't opposite field.Guzman's HR p[robably had the higher EV, Howlett's the higher launch angle. Shugart looked pretty consistent throughout the outing. I wouldn't term it as a dominant performance, more like out-foxed. He kept them off guard for the whole outing. Cottam's HR was on a 2-1 high and outside half FB, hit opposite field. The camera lost track of it but the announcer said Cottam got all of it.
