Also, what problem is being solved with Sam Travis? Chavis getting less play, for someone with a lower floor and lower ceiling?

Hernandez took his job.
Nunez was a decent backup third baseman with low OBP and some pop who was way, way, way, way, way overextended playing second base in more than an emergency.

The problem being solved with Sam Travis is that heโs replacing one of the worst players in the league Heโs also been hitting pretty well lately. Or at least it seems that way when I look at the box scores

Travis is probably just keeping Moreland's roster spot warm.

Well...That was the problem with him..He is 332 years old!! I really didn't believe he was a reliability though.

On a related note: news organizations need to stop purging copy editors.

And with that, Nunez' season ends at a full -1.0 fWAR. This DFA adds roughly as much value to the team as adding a top-flight reliever.

When 332 years old you reach, hit and field as good you will not.

Just tells us how bad the system is when its Travis & Weber called up? (Neither one does anything for the team IMO)

Well, you won't have Nunez to kick around anymore.
I'm almost surprised Cora agreed to this move. It was painfully obvious it needed to be made (along with Velazquez being optioned although Weber is no prize either.)
As far as Sam Travis goes, his presence only tells me that Cora couldn't stand watching Holt or Vazquez play 1b anymore. It's temporary until Moreland comes back, or at least I hope so.
I'd hate to see a Moreland/Travis platoon.
I'd rather the Sox just take their chances with Holt or Hernandez at 2b against lefties with Chavis playing 1b against southpaws than Travis.
Anyways, thanks Nunez for the boost of energy he gave the Sox in 2017 when he was acquired, the key defensive do or die play he made against the Yankees to end the ALDS, the huge PH HR in World Series Game 1 to alleviate the anxiety of watching Kimbrel have to close out a 1 run lead, and thanks for the comedic relief in Game 3 of the World Series.
For all of his flaws, I'll remember his funny laugh and when I think back on his time with the Sox it will be positive. Look forward to seeing him when they have the 10 year reunion of the 2018 Red Sox.
