Houck seems like a guy who might be dynamite following an opener or as some version of a piggyback situation with a lefty. Seems like a profile that could feast on RH heavy lineups.

Peoria Top of the 4th Jarren Duran triples (2) on a fly ball to center fielder Derek Hill, deflected by right fielder Jo Adell. Jeremy Pena flies out to right fielder Jo Adell. J.J. Matijevic strikes out swinging. Jarren Duran caught stealing home, catcher Franklin Torres to pitcher Keegan Thompson to catcher Franklin Torres.

Looking like Chatham and Houck might be done in AZ. Houck appears to have reported to Team USA camp, so I presume the others have as well.

I guess that makes sense with Chatham: AFL regular season ends Saturday. Probably (rightfully) figure Chatham can finish out before joining the team.
Could see Houck being done so his last couple starts are for Team USA rather than Peoria though.

Ah, jerseys were in lockers with Royals logos. Royals spring training facility is in Surprise. Didn't need to go far.

Not a big lefty vs. righty discrepancy for Houck. Lefties were 1 for 6 with a walk and three Ks (two swinging, one looking). Righties were 1 for 7 with 2 walks and 3 Ks (all swinging).
Bohm and Ramos, Scottsdale's two best hitters, are both RHB. Houck walked both walked once and struck both out once.

That's likely his last start in the AFL. Season ends Friday, championship on Saturday and Peoria won't be in it. Nice performance from Houck down there.

Duran almost beat out a 2-hop infield ground ball in his first at bat. He is going to put a great deal of pressure on infielders to handle the ball cleanly and make quick throws.

Mata also hit a guy. Went BB, GIDP, HBP, BB, Ks.
Would presume he's now done. Fact he kept his velo into the AFL is encouraging.

Duran 0/3 2K Chatham 0/3 SB Diaz 1IP 3H 2ER 1BB 1K Not so “big ending” for Sox players, but most did quite well in the AFL. We can dream a bit over the winter. What are the odds of seeing Chatham, Houck or Duran at some point in 2020? Reasonably high I think, unless they are traded. CJ has a long line of 2B/SS ahead of him including Chavis, Xander, Brockstar, Lin, Marco; Houck could stay in the rotation or be the longman; but no one may be ahead of Duran (and Giminez). Interesting that this year’s high upside AFL class could play a role in this important offseason’s deliberations. Just one of the many nuances Bloom will face in the next few weeks, hopefully with strong input from the four friends and Cora. Talk about a crash course. He already deserves a pass for 2020.

Well Holt is gone and for some reason they're just not into Lin, so I think Chatham very easily could come up next year. Duran could easily be up at some point, especially if one or more of the current outfield is traded.
I'm still of the strong belief that Houck would've been up this past year if they were still in the playoff hunt in late August. Only way he's not in the majors next year is if he gets hurt.

I wonder if Bloom has different feelings regarding Lin? I just don't see how he doesn't get an opportunity ahead of Chatham. Maybe they have Chavis or an outside guy they want, but I's think Lin could at least be a Holt type if they do part ways with him. Although perhaps Bloom loves him some Brock Holt. I could totally see that. But it will likely depend on a lot of other things getting done first. Ideally, they don't Chatham in 2020 and he can get more prepared for 2021 (or be traded).
