His home run last night almost left the stadium. 440 feet. That was LOUD contact. Sounded like a HR for sure. He’s an interesting pickup. Former highly-rated guy, who provides real insurance at multiple positions. Idk where this power streak is coming from but I like it. Curious to learn if there’s a swing change in there. The streak ends. Owings was due up in the 10th, but the Pawsox won it in the 9th.

He started at 2nd base today for the first time IIRC. They saw enough and decided to ditch the experience? They likely just wanted Flores to get some reps there too. I don't think he's a shortstop long term or anything, but they're going to at least give it until the end of this season before they move him off of it.

Curious to learn if there’s a swing change in there. He's had a few decent MLB runs that were derailed by injury if I remember correctly. Definitely not the least interesting 27 year old you could have on your AAA roster.

Dammit. Lol, still got a hit though. Idk...I think this could be a great under-the-radar move. Especially with the unresolved 2b questions. Owings still strikes out too much for AAA, but if this power translates and there’s a real reason for it in terms of swing/approach...that’s terrific depth. And with Hernandez (raking in AAA) and Lin (multipositional plus defender and adequate temporary bat)...they don’t need to make any ugly Nunez-style deals, so they’ll save $. And it’s possible that they could flip one of the bunch next deadline. Great value for them. I’d hate to see him go (much prefer a reasonable 3- year deal), but it softens the possible loss of Brockstar.

Yeah, I remember always thinking he was close to a “good” year in AZ ( the park/air would help), a breakout candidate, and he just got hurt or had extended funks, never really came through. But he’s also the sort of player (especially in light of being a notable minor league hitter when he was coming up) who might Scooter Gennett. Just sorta...hone his craft, and have things click. The BB/K thing has always been problematic, but...we’ll see. Be fun to watch either way.

Owings is on a nice little run but with Marco and Lin already on the 40 man, it would pretty much take a disaster to see him in Boston.

His home run last night almost left the stadium. 440 feet. Holy crap! My eyes are failing me (or those $9 beers blurred my vision) I could have sworn I saw someone in the first row catch that ball - but clearly NOT. I must have confused that with the double he hit earlier in the game. Jeez, it sucks getting old.

He would have perfect to replace Nunez when they needed a RH bat. But there isn't much of a need now. However, I wonder if he'd be worse than Chavis, who has been a completely ordinary (slightly below average) hitter since his ridiculous April.

I think we are getting a little too hyped about a guy who hit .182 over his last two seasons in the bigs
Like .133/.193/.222 was earlier this year in a decent but not huge sample size. We didn’t like Nunez, imagine dealing with that.
I don’t view him as an option for the big club at all outside of this September. And even then he’s buried behind other superior (imo) options
