Still haven't seen the official word on the last PawSox transaction, but I gather Will Flemming has mentioned it on the radio, so what the hell--he requested and was granted release from the PawSox and I'm told has signed with Rochester. (Always a good plan to do this when your new team is visiting your original team.)

The Eastern League playoff rules have created the well-known Unacceptable Scenario that arose in 1981, MLB. ( Before being corrected by MLB.)
Team A. First half winner. Team B. 2ND best overall record. Team C. in close fight with Team A to be 2ND half winner.
Team B deliberately loses games to Team A the final week, to help A beat out C in the 2ND half. B gets the playoff nod to play A in first round.
You see it?

Pedro Castellanos hits another home run, his fourth in his last six games. He’s got six for the year, which is his total for the past three years combined.
Gilberto hits his second home run.
Ockimey hits his 20th.
CDLG hits #13.
Everybody gets a home run!

Another great start Denyi Reyes. He’s needs to start getting some recognition. Even on this site he’s ranked 35th. He’s 22 and putting in great starts at AA

Probably something to do with sequencing/extension/deception when it comes to Reyes
Good to see this power surge continue for Castellanos

Two for four in his AAA debut; not bad. Also, ‘bout time for Logan Browning. Two scoreless innings in his high A debut.

Everything got put in play. I'm not convinced it plays in MLB. Hit 89 once (although the gun I was looking at may have been 1 mph slow). Offspeed stuff was... fine? Nothing plus.

The teams would need to care about who they play in the playoffs more than player development or, y'know, winning.

The teams would need to care about who they play in the playoffs more than player development or, y'know, winning. Team A is Trenton B is Reading. Chance would have it that Reading ends the season with four games vs. Trenton. So Reading could eliminate themselves from the playoffs by beating Trenton and clinch the playoffs by losing to Trenton. Even if it's not intentional, it creates an absurdity. Which is why Kuhn changed the MLB rule in '81, when it was looked at. And other minor leagues don't use it. None that I'm aware of. Has nothing to do with playoff matchups. Edit: Southern League, Texas League use same method. But, teams involved don't play each other the last week. Perhaps all games the final 10 days are inter-divisional. Eliminating the issue. Eastern League is run by the uninformed.
