Bryan Gonzalez with his 9th HR of the season. He now has the most HR (single season) of any Red Sox DSL player dating back to 2006.

Railin Perez and Gabriel Jackson with solid starts today. Both have stood out this year, albeit from a box score perspective.

I obviously don't have any film to back this up as it is the DSL, but I buy into this way more than I did Victor Acosta's power surge given that Gonzalez is listed 6'2", 220 and a 23 year old Acosta is still listed at 5'11", 185. Gonzalez definitely looks the part of a power guy. Always nice to have a guy flash an obvious interesting tool at such a low level. I will add though, it's pretty crazy that Acosta did while walking more times than he struck out.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but Jesus Maita may be converting to a pitcher. Hasn't had any at bats in a month but just made his second pitching appearance today for the DSL 2 squad

Jarren Duran started game one of the double header but ended up being pulled mid-game again. Luckily it wasn’t from an injury. He got tossed by the ump after grounding into a double play. With Duran’s speed, I’m inclined to believe he was safe without even seeing the play.

With Duran’s speed, I’m inclined to believe he was safe without even seeing the play. Addam, you were correct, Jaren beat out the relay that not only ended the inning but cost Portland a run with runners on first and third. The ump made the call from the outfield grass between first and second base (3 umpires in AA) and Jarren just kind of put up his hands. There was a short long distance conversation then Jarren said a few things to himself while waiting for someone to bring his glove when the ump tossed him, which surprised Jarren more than being called out on the play. Joe Oliver came out to ask what happened and stayed long enough that I thought he would get tossed also but wasn't.

I was happy for the promotions of Dalbec and Chatham, both for them and the organization, but certainly missed watching them last night. The Sea Dogs faced Santos with a 7.78 era but who reached 99 on the stadium gun (his numbers reminded me of Bello, lots of hits and k's). Duran would get his only hit of the night off him in the first before I could sit down (was told it was off the fastball and pulled to right field). The bats were quiet from the third through the sixth but teed off on the closer Griggs in the seventh. With first and third and one out, Duran's replacement Hardy laid down a first pitch suicide squeeze to first for the game winner. It was a little strange watching Dedgar close out the game (kind of like Cashner) with his 91 fastball and off speed assortment.
Wade also topped out at 91. Netzer made a nice play on a grounder left of second throwing across his body to get Nevin. Welker followed with a liner to center that Wilson got a late break on then dove forward to catch (would have been a great picture sittingstill, where were you?).

Unfortunately the two-hour drive back from Portland after a night game is incompatible with the real job! Trying to choose now between Portland in NH or Lowell at home on Saturday before attempting the PawSox/get-outta-my-way-on-95/Lowell double on Sunday.

In the second game, Crawford was 91-93 with one fastball showing 94. I counted 6 swings and misses on his 44 pitches, 4 of those with the 84-87 cutter. He threw 26 pitches in the first, 15 in the second, and left after Burcham reached on Rivera's error leading off the third, I assumed only for pitch count purposes.
Gorst topped out at 91 and held that number for all three innings he worked. Bazardo got up to 95 but gave up some hard contact before getting out of the 6th. Three swings and misses, two on the curve. It was kind of neat to see both him and Duran last year in Norwich playing for Lowell.

Had heard that the Portland stadium gun isn't nearly as bad as it's been in the past, and it seems like that's correct based on those reports. Looks 1-2 MPH hot based on my previous looks at Crawford and Bazardo this year.
