Devers has 4 years til free agency right? Would it be crazy to think he could be signed for 8/120? I'd do that in a heartbeat, if I was either the Red Sox or Devers.

I am actually impressed by Lakins. Up to 95 with movement. A bit hard to judge against the Orioles, but I look forward to more of him.

Rafi hand/eye coordination second to none. Using the monster at will like a kid with a tennis ball against the side of the house.

Moreland never saves Devers errors. Chavis is better at scooping the ball at first base I've never gotten how he is a GG 1B. He stinks at scooping the ball. When I played 1B (at a very, very low level of HS ball), that was my main job on D.

I pay for Devers I trade Mookie I do both this off season I pay Devers. I pay Mookie. I let JD walk. I have the greatest right/left combo in Sox history for a decade. I'd see what type of pitching we could get for JBJ. I would let JD walk if he's asking for too much. Also, who knows with Mookie. Honestly, none of us know exactly how these negotiations are going down and what the players are looking for.

What type of arbitration raise would JBJ get from $8.55 M? I don’t know if teams will be lining up to send a quality arm for the right to pay him ~10M. I’m starting to think we’ll ride him in CF another year and see what Duran looks like heading into 2021.

Opposing teams should start fining pitchers who throw Devers a strike. That's the next step in his development. Turning into Barry Bonds, walking 25% of the time. He's probably not going to do this. I don't know why Barry Bonds needs to be compared to him.

The A's enter the bottom of the 8th trailing 4-1, exactly like the Rays were.
Of course, the Rays scored 2 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th and won, but they were literally playing the worst team in MLB (by W/L), while the A's are playing the best. We shall see.

In Devers' last 8 games, he's 20 for 37 with 8 2B and 4 HR. That's a 1.081 slugging %, not OPS.

His arbitration numbers are going to be in line with Mookie anyway (20 million per). I would buy him out and offer 8/200 or 10/250.

Can't say I see the honor in declining to fulfill one's contractual obligations. Chris Davis has a great job and he tries hard and he's getting paid a ton of money for it and he should keep doing it for as long as he wants. If the Orioles insist on keeping him on the field, that's on them. Same deal with Pujols. Pujols is all-world compared to Davis. But sure, he has every right to finish out his contract. I guess I’d be embarrassed. It is clearly not fun to be so bad. Think of it this way. By sticking around, he’s doing his part to ensure the Orioles will pick at the top for the next four years.

If you take out the 0 for 54 he’s actually been a respectable hitter

If you take out the 0 for 54 he’s actually been a respectable hitter I would encourage Davis to slim down and: A. Give up the slugging, focus on OBP. B. Get back to playing 3B-RF C. Continue to pitch as the 8th or 9th man in the bullpen. Improve on that career ERA of 3.00 Would make himself somewhat valuable to the team.

Glad yesterday worked out. Such a good thing that the Orioles truly do suck. When it was 6-0 I said if it wasn't my kid's first game and if it wasn't the Orioles I'm not sure I'd want to stick around to see them get clobbered, but with the O's you know it's just a matter of time and I figured if it got to 6-3, they'd probably come back and win.....so my kid for his first game saw a 6-0 comeback.
He got some cool souvenirs like the 2018 World Series Champs kids puzzle and I bought him his first Red Sox cap and a baseball and I bought myself the 9 time World Series Championship logos t-shirt I was looking for. And we ate everything in sight. And he handled the blazing sun and the drenching rain.
We did duck under the stands so we had to watch Devers' HR on TV. We had left during Mookie's sac fly. When the rain let up in the 78th we got back up, enjoyed Take Me out to the Ballgame, eventually Sweet Caroline, and eventually Dirty Water.
Devers was a beast again. He just flicked his wrists and pounded the ball off the wall a couple of times. We saw Sam Travis hit one out. Maybe it's time to take him more seriously?
The Orioles played little league baseball in the 6th with that popup that Moreland hit than fell in between 3 fielders and the grounder that the pitcher didn't adequately cover 1b.
Just a great day and a great memory.
Early on I was remarking to my wife that last year I saw two games and both were shutouts including 7 shut out innings from Eovaldi. That was the 2018 Red Sox. In 2019 it took all of 4 batters for Eovaldi to give up 3 runs. When they fell behind 6-0 my wife who knows very little about the Sox said to me, "Wow they REALLY are bad this year".
But fortunately the Orioles are far worse so I chose the right team to go see.
So finally the 2019 Red Sox performed a mitzvah for their season. They gave my son a game to remember.

Nice to see Sam Travis finally hitting again and now showing some power. Time to work on his D and start getting some more walks. That knee injury seemed to set him back a few years. Even without a ton of power I always expected him to be able to hit in the majors and at minimum be a useful platoon guy.
