They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). Me, Who Knows Stats: Intentional Walks are bad, and you should not do them. Mike Trout arrives at home plate against "TBA" on Saturday Me, Who Knows Stats: The strangest thing I've ever seen in baseball, and also maybe the most obvious is when the Red Sox basically intentionally walked Bregman 7 times in the first 3 games against the Astros last year and then his hot streak was over.

When Trout homers tonight he'll pass Derek Jeter in career bWAR which will be a bittersweet moment for all of us.
(I know that's not quite how WAR works but just roll with it)

Facing 3 lefties. Thus, Owings starts all 3 games.

I was supposed to go to the Saturday game but had a family emergency pop up so I just want you to all sleep soundly knowing that the Sox will win that game 25-2.

(I know that's not quite how WAR works but just roll with it) Funnily enough, when I saw this I had just looked him up on the fWAR leaderboards and seen that he just passed Jeter - now 73.3 to 73.1. So if you go by fWAR you get the best of both worlds - Jeter sucks and we can root against Trout (for 3 games; but I'm pulling for him to get another 10 WAR season).

Porcello has been pitching better, so now he's going 7 days in between starts.
They must have their reasons. But the Johnson thing is getting old.

Facing 3 lefties. Thus, Owings starts all 3 games. Owings career:
.242 / .284 / .366 (1648 PA) vs. RHP .240 / .284 / .366 (621 PA) vs. LHP
You may never see that again.
Brockstar with the Axe bat has just 62 PA vs. LHP, and has a .302 xwOBA and .279 wOBA. It's actually worse if you exclude his damaged-cornea escapade.
Owings is .269 / .274.
So you want Holt vs. LHP except against a guy who's tough on LHB. That describes Suarez big-time (1038 vs. 764) and, to a lesser extent, Heaney. I start Owings tonight and Chavis on Sunday. But you get Holt in the game as soon as the starter is out.
Peters has a reverse split and if Holt doesn't start, you all have my permission to hurl objects at your TV.

Trout actually has a reverse split in his career. I start the game with Darwinzon and have him go 1, then have Cashner go 4.

This news about Tyler Skaggs is horrible. Taking into account the families statement, this damn thing could blow up.

Important start for Eovaldi - needs to get his confidence and focus back (stuff looks fine, control not quite). Would help if the ump would call the borderline strikes. Already at 23 pitches in the first with an out to get yet.

FWIW, the Red Sox are looking at Jhoulys Chacin who the Brewers released. He's been terrible this year as he has battled injuries.
He had some good years the past two years in San Diego and Milwaukee and had some good seasons in Colorado.
He'd be a minimum wage starting pitching option if the Sox elect to sign him. He's throwing bullpen sessions in front of the Red Sox brass.
I got this from MLB traderumors.com courtesy of Michael Silverman.

Didn't have the best camera angle so this may be a dumb statement, but I can't help but feel that Mookie might have caught that.

They didn't need to change that RF to ball hitting midway a HR with the juiced ball and all. Maybe it's a part of the conspiracy.

The Angels starter somehow manages to throw less pitches than Eovaldi. That is amazing.
