Devers, X, and JDM all way better hitters that Betts. I let Betts walk and get what I can for him

He's having, no lie, the worst season I have ever seen from a full season from a starting pitcher by a Red Sox pitcher. Calling him a bum on the mound is putting it mildly this year. I have nothing against the guy, I'm just tired of seeing him pitch in this uniform. C'mon, you must remember John Lackey's 2011 season. It wasn't that long ago. He was pitching injured but that guy had an ERA above 6 and the league ERA and HR issues were nowhere near as bad as this season's. Maybe because when he got healthy in 2013 that's your memory of him - being the guy who won the clinching game of the Series? Otherwise how can you forget?! I remember Al Nipper being atrocious in 1986, Mike Torrez being lousy in 82. And plenty of lousy performances in between. Porcello's miserable season is in line with a lot of lousy miserable seasons that I've seen pitchers have for the Sox. Zane Smith in 1995 was a torch and there were a lot of guys who were replaced that didn't get a chance to be as awful full-time. There's a distinct difference between saying someone is pitching like a bum and displaying outright rage for the human being who wants to be pitching shutout after shutout. Lackey was downright annoying in his misery and he was fat and part of the chicken and beer club. But 2013 erased everything for me as well, when he actually tried to attone for his bad seasons and lack of effort by showing up in the BSOHL and having a great season.

I try to block out of my memory guys who were atrocious but now....anybody remember Mark Portugal? Or I hate to say it, Ramon Martinez in 2000? Lots of horrible pitching performances - a lot by guys who actually had solid careers.

Yeah, unless Porcello needs Tommy John surgery this year, there's really no excuse for Porcello. Lackey also didn't pitch the whole season either. I actually give him credit for gutting it out for that long.

Beautiful by the Kid!
Have to say (and maybe its been said) -- to listen to Eck and Remy is a joy. You can see them competing a bit in a playful way and when they do their observations go well beyond those directed at the simple fan -- they use their experience to talk about the nuances of batting and pitching -- what has transpired so far in the game, what is now happening at the present at-bat, and what may happen in the innings ahead. Splice in their original Eck and Remy-isms and you have a winning combo. Keeps a depressing season enjoyable. Thanks to both of them!

Devers, X, and JDM all way better hitters that Betts. I let Betts walk and get what I can for him In the history of baseball there have been 120 10 WAR seasons. Mookie got one of those last year. You dont let 10 WAR players walk or get what you can for them. Now if he forces the FO hand that is another story.

Tampa split the double header. Cleveland is now losing. Like you need to come back here.

Darwinzon is absolutely disgusting. Add that to the list of silver linings this year.

It's a good thing this bullpen is elite; otherwise, this game would be over.

Yeah, he was and so was Brad Penny - the two disappointments for 2009.

4 shutout innings by the bullpen. Blow it up David, or David's replacement for doing such a crappy job with the pen.

honestly, how silly is it that a team sets the ML season home run record......with a month left.
that is pretty bad.
