Gammons is on MLB Network right now. Said he's heard a rumor of Benny and Price for Andrew Vaughn and Madrigal. Doesn't know if it will work out. Depends on how much the Sox pay down on Price. This should be the kind of deal Bloom and co are searching for. I saw a couple people on twitter mentioning Price possibly to the White Sox yesterday. We'll see I guess

You clear cap space and you get value ontop of the dead money. All I'm looking for is a decent package. A couple of starting pitching types that are maybe close to big league ready. This team can't really afford even dirt cheap without clearing cap room first. A few days it was comical that any team would take on all or most of David Prices deal. Given this crazy market that might not be the chase anymore. I'll believe it when I see it. Price is 34 and costs 96 million. The Sox are probably going to have to eat close to a third of that contract. You're talking yourself into that one.

Unless we are talking a three team deal I don't see why the White Sox would want Beni very much.

Chad Jennings, Red Sox beat reporter for the Athletic, said him and Peter Gammons actually talked about this rumor yesterday involving the White Sox and could see a deal like that happening w attaching Benny w Price to get good prospects. He said this in his live chat going on right now. Said there is widespread interest in Benintendi across the league

I don't even see the White Sox even interested in Price. Why would they want to deal with the decline of Price with a lot of the costs included? They're probably going to want to be competitive, but they're probably better served through free agency first/trades of their prospect depth.

I could see them wanting Price, I think he could fill in nicely as their 3 starter but I don't see them trading talent like Madrigal or Vaughn in a deal for Price. I don't see Price being traded until later in the offseason when the 2nd/3rd tier of starting pitchers start signing. Teams that whiff on guys like Keuchel/Ryu/MadBum and still need starting pitching would maybe see Price as a good consolation prize.

Price > MadBum and Keuchel
Feel like Boston fans love to slight Price, but he's still a very good pitcher. And he'll inevitably be better by leaving the AL East. If he was in the NL West like MadBum and Ryu he'd probably post stellar numbers.

The way the Red Sox get a good prospect like Madrigal is by attaching Benintendi to Price and paying down Price's salary. He would be a good veteran pitcher for that team. He is well known as a great teammate and would be a veteran leader for their young pitching staff

Madrigal is the second baseman moving forward next year most likely.

Price and Benintendi in a package might net them a good prospect in return but I don't see it coming from the White Sox without it being a three team deal with Benintendi going elsewhere.

I don't think the White Sox want to move Moncada off of third base. They've talked about his arm and the fact that he makes plays no one else can over there. I think he's their third baseman for the next 10 years. Just makes all the sense in the world to plug Madrigal in at second base for them.

www.mlb.com/breaking-news/david-price-red-sox-trade-possibilities"A source said that concept has not been considered by Boston's front office -- nor will it be, especially not with Benintendi. "That's not going to happen," the source said. Bury that rumor away. They also include Matt Carpenter from the Cardinals, along with Will Myers from the Padres. All depends on what the return is, for what the Sox are willing to eat of his contract according to this.

Cardinals have a couple of interesting pieces, starting with their best prospect, Dylan Carlson.
That along with Alex Reyes and a Matt Carpenter as a throw in. I can easily see a deal getting done.

If he was in the NL West like MadBum and Ryu he'd probably post stellar numbers. From April 14th when he ramped up after being in spring training mode to start the season until July 14th, right after which he started having trouble with the cyst in his wrist, he made 15 starts, went 7-1 with a 2.71 ERA (2.68 FIP) with 10.49 K/9 and 2.48 BB/9. I'd take that every season (without the injuries) for $31M per year. You can't ignore the injuries, but the cyst seems like a fluke, not a recurring nightmare. I'm going to be pretty pissed if they just throw him away without getting anything of value, while having to continue paying him and not replacing him for Mookie's last year of control. Either rebuild or don't. Price has a lot of upside from what his results have been the last few years. I'd rather bet on that upside than just throw the season away half-assed.

It seems like the Red Sox are in 2012 mode with a far superior roster and without the contract albatrosses that are obvious 'dump at any cost' situations. It just makes me more and more pissed at Dombrowski and John Henry. There was absolutely no reason to put themselves where they're at now. John Henry should have had a god damned 3-5 year plan at all times that they stuck to in order to avoid this crap. I still don't know exactly what their plans are because the only thing they've done to this point is trade Sandy Leon, but if they really are going below $208 million this season, they are wasting Mookie's last year. Either contend or don't. Either rebuild or don't. Doing neither is the worst choice. If they really have to go below $208 million, they should trade everyone except Xander, ERod and Devers.
They are not going to improve the team while dumping contracts of useful players and not replacing them. This is still a team who would contend for a championship if they don't make the team worse.

In the Jennings chat referenced above, he thought that Price could be valued as a 20M/Yr pitcher so if the Sox pitched in 12/yr (36 total) then the injury/contract piece would be taken care of and you'd now be talking a baseball trade (note - the last part is my interpretation of what he said).
EDIT - FWIW, he also thinks the get to around 215M. If they are in contention by the trade deadline, then they move in 1 direction. If they aren't, they should be able to move enough money to get below 208.
