Ryan Weber is out of options and he has waived others to keep him so Bloom must have penciled in as part of the Bullpen

Where’s the option for “Weber will be the closer?” 😉 Could be Blooms plan, who knows? (Or maybe Brice. Actually, I don’t think he has a plan)

He’s been put in a crap situation and is working on it. Your level of disgruntlement with Chaim Bloom is completely unreasonable and irrational.

Velazquez has an option Sheesh You're missing the general point which is the guy is a fringe guy - what huge difference does it really make? The Sox have bigger issues than whether Weber should have been kept over Marco Hernandez.

How about starting a better poll about whether your opinion is reasonable or not.

Yes he's being asked to dump payroll, but he comes from the Rays and they do that every year.

Being the GM of the Red Sox is a great situation to be in, but he is in a crap situation with the goal to get under 208. There’s a big difference between cutting payroll in Tampa and Boston.

Huge difference he has $208 million and not under $80 million to spend. He has a lot more options in Boston and this is why he was hired. Yet so far nothing.

And that's pretty much impossible because they don't have any dead contracts. I mean try to think of anything that accomplishes this. How do you go from $237 million to $208 million without getting worse? And without trading prospects.

If the mandate is to get below 208, there’s not really a feasible way to do that without making the team objectively worse.

IMO, you're either rebuilding or you're spending. Doing neither just stagnates the team. Bloom basically has to be a magician this offseason. He seems to have done a decent job improving their depth, which is really all he can do right now. That is very important, but there are still holes in the starting lineup. (even though Brock Holt and Mitch Moreland remain unsigned)

Only you could pick apart a guy after making a minor transaction and was very publicly informed that he's not allowed to spend any money, that he needs to shed payroll, who just had his manager fired with only a few weeks left in the off-season and all before the start of his first season with the Red Sox. For your next trick, can you pick apart his rounds 30-40 draft picks?

I actually don't see how this is even a question since we know the outcome. Yes, I value Marco over Weber but right now we have both. If Bloom DFAed Weber, there's a strong possibility that an experienced budget reliever that can go long while earning minimum wage isn't going to clear waivers. If that happened, we'd only have Marco.
What's the question ? A bird in hand...
