Probably an unpopular player around these parts, sure. But what does everybody think about a swap of JBJ and a prospect for Chris Archer? Each is a free agent after the season and make similar money. Cherington was a part of the front office that drafted JBJ. Bloom was a part of the front office that acquired Archer and saw him become an impactful player (and eventually sold him in a heist of a move). Pirates just traded Marte so there is a conceivable opening. Sox need a starting pitcher and get one with AL East experience. Sox can sign Puig for a year and have Verdugo start in CF.
Let me have it

Let me have it I like the idea, but I don't think the Pirates do it. If Archer performs for a half a season, he could fetch something. If JBJ does perform a little, I still don't think he fetches anything. I'm not afraid of Puig and I would gladly take him on a one year deal, he's another guy the Sox could sell later.

You see the Sox rotation? Yeah, it is bad. Why trade for a minor, short term improvement? Because it’s an improvement and if he pitches well and the Sox are out of it he can be flipped at the deadline for more than what JBJ would get (unless JBJ goes off this year)

So that flip might not work out. I’d rather trade JBJ for something I want.

Why would either team make this trade?

I really want to make a trade that mirrors what the Twins did with Odorizzi last year. Obviously the toughest part is finding a guy that's about to break out, let alone making a deal for him. But we need some pitching with control and some upside (not an ace but a reliable 3)
