It’s weird how throwing the ball helps you score

JJ Taylor, the next in a long line of great 3rd down backs.

Looks like what we expected, an early 2000s Patriots team. All about the D and running it.

It’s going to be interesting to see if Bill can teach Cam to read the defense and make checks at the line.

The offensive line looks like it could be a beast. But I’ve never seen people get so excited about 21 points against a bad defense. This secondary is special, but the front 7 is going to struggle against good teams. The dolphins are terrible.

Didn't you judge the Patriots by how they ended last year? Dolphins were 3-2 or 5-4 depending how you want to look at it. That's not the team that went 0-7 last year to start the year. Plus added a ton of talent this off-season. I don't think that is a terrible team. www.espn.com/blog/miami-dolphins/post/_/id/30629/miami-dolphins-2020-nfl-free-agent-signings-ereck-flowers-secures-starting-guard-spotThat's a crap load of talent, especially on D. We'd have 28 if Harry didn't fumble, which is crazy good for a QB with a month in the system with no preseason games or joint practices. Newton looked better than Brady did with Tampa today, even with all his weapons. Newton's running changes everything and his was crazy efficient. He's just going to get better with more time. Why wouldn't we be excited?

A couple of big mistakes prevented a fairly impressive win. They were ok. I liked the diminutive RB Taylor: viewed for first time and hope he can stay healthy. I expect a close game against a tough Seattle club. One/2 missed FG could be difference.

This secondary is special, but the front 7 is going to struggle against good teams. The dolphins are terrible. It's not just the 21 points, they fumbled out of the end zone and missed a field goal so it could've easily been 31 points and it wouldn't have changed the performance. Points aren't everything, they held the ball for nearly 35 minutes and consistently picked up third and short on the ground when the Dolphins knew it was coming. If they just had a few long plays sprinkled in with consistent 3 and outs the points wouldn't matter. I really hope Belichick realizes he should be going for two a lot this year. Extra points aren't going to be automatic, and this offensive line plus Cam is basically a lock to convert them at a good enough rate so what's the hold up?

I hope you all are right but we will see. Nothing wrong with being excited, but yesterday doesn’t really change much for me against one of the worst teams in the league. Sorry, they are....
Cam ran for his most yards since 2014 yesterday. Do we actually think that’s going to continue week in and week out? If it does, can he stay healthy? Can you win week in and week out running the ball 2/3 of the time in 2020?
Maybe this was a simple game plan because of the short camp. Maybe it was to put all this on tape so teams have to constantly be aware of it. I’m sure some of both of that was true. I’ll be very interested to see how Cam develops under these coaches. He clearly doesn’t read a defense very well or isn’t comfortable with the play book as there were checks missed at the line of scrimmage.
JJ Taylor looked interesting, Harry looked like a decent NFL receiver, albeit not a first round pick type so that was good. Annoyed Harris is out, would be nice to have an explosive back and he’s the one who maybe could be. Sony is clearly not that guy at this point.
The new TEs were MIA.
Looking forward to the next 4 weeks.

I think the team is itching for someone like Harris to come along and actually be good. Hope it comes to pass in Week 4 and beyond. I also think we're trading another Day 2 pick for a WR because the team is good enough to know it's not good enough with JE11/Harry/ ?. The secondary is SO elite and the young front 7 guys have been promising, and hopefully grow as the year goes on.

He ran for more yards twice in 2017 and averaged just about 50 yards a game in 2018. The guys always been an elite runner, what we saw yesterday wasn't something that hasn't happened in six years.

If by about 50 yards a game you mean less than 35 sure... (488 yards in 14 games 2018). But yes. I misspoke, it was most attempts not most yards since 2014.

It will be interesting to see how Brady reacts to not being coddled so much. Half joking, but definitely don't remember BB calling him out publicly like that. In practice, in film review, but not so blunt to the media.

Which is basically what we got yesterday. Along with option plays, which was nice to see.

The overall point was it’s not a sustainable way to run the offense. They need to evolve and they definitely want to evolve and they usually do evolve but the question remains can they. We will see. There’s film now looking forward to Sunday.

The overall point was it’s not a sustainable way to run the offense. They need to evolve and they definitely want to evolve and they usually do evolve but the question remains can they. We will see. There’s film now looking forward to Sunday. When asked about the new offense Bill says we'll take what the D gives us and they have always done just that. Even with Brady, they'd have games were they would just keep running it if the D played the pass all game. Heck didn't we see that already in game one? They ran it heavily in first half, D adjusted and they came out throwing to start the second half. They looked very good doing outside of Harry's fumble. I think the overall point is really we'll run to set up the pass, compared to with Brady passing to open up the running game. We're also going to run much more than we have in a long time. Remember around 20 years ago with that big back Smith who wasn't that good? We kept running because it helps the D and sets up the pass. Yet we now also have a QB that teams need to account for, which as Bill has said many times can be the hardest things for a defense to do. They likely need to keep an extra man on the line to account for him. Which means less guys going after the QB and dropping into coverage. A mobile QB changes everything. You don't need 75 yards a game on the ground from Newton. You just need teams factoring that into their defense for games. Call it the Gronk in 2018 affect. He wasn't that good that year, yet teams still feared Gronk and game planned to control him. I wouldn't be surprised if the Seahawks game plan to take away the run, to see them come out like the second half throwing it a ton.

I would expect a good amount of play action and rpo’s against this Seattle defense on Sunday night. There is no way Cam can continue getting tackled or hit 20 times in a game against any team, never mind one with Bobby Wagner and Jamal Adams. Would love to see the offense open up a bit on Sunday.
