Marwin suffers from the trickle down of injury/ineffectiveness. He shouldn’t necessarily be starting every day, but he has been. If the OF solidifies, Arroyo or someone takes over 2nd, and Dalbec hangs in, Marwin becomes a great sub glove.

Hey, you know who does stink though? Marwin Gonzalez.
Since the start of 2020:
353 PA, .206/.286/.305, 65 wRC+
Practically Franchian. And he's 32, so this may pretty much be what he is now.
(Btw, I humbly retract my request that he bat lead-off over Kiké.)
Heâs been rather unlucky at the plate, a lot of warning track power. Even with some luck heâs not going to be a great hitter but idk... I have a hard time saying a guy who is giving us a plus glove at a bunch of positions completely stinks. Especially on a team like this where the defense has been a little suspect to say the least. I still like him at the price we got him for Absolutely should not bat leadoff though lol As for Dalbec heâs made more errors than the average 1B, thatâs for sure. Makes sense given he hasnât had a ton of reps there. I donât view him as a butcher over there though. Has the Red Sox defense been suspect? I feel like it's been better than most of the teams they've played against, at least. They're 7th in the majors by UZR/150, and 17th by DRS.
I like Marwin's defense and versatility - those are indeed valuable. But if Santana and Arroyo and Kiké are all healthy, it's also pretty redundant, no? I guess he's still useful for backing up Devers. In any event, I think he has a role on the team, even if his offense remains terrible; I just worry that Cora's going to treat him like another one of His Guys, as he seems to do with some players, and give him way more ABs than he should be getting.

This is my 2000th post. Perhaps I should say something profound. Maybe not. 😁 It will be hard to top your post about your dog Mookie on page 59 in the Mookie Betts traded thread, one of my favorite posts. forum.soxprospects.com/post/411836/quote/5372

Bobby Dalbec ranks 20th of the 22 first basemen with 130 PA in fWAR. Just sayin.... Well, what are you saying exactly? Do you think they should replace him or something (despite his 101 wRC+ since 4/7 and 196 wRC+ since 5/7)? He's at +0.5 WAR since 5/7.
FWIW, the defensive metrics hate him: -6 DRS and -5.5 UZR/150. (I think they use UZR to calculate WAR?) Doesn't seem to me like he's been that bad...
And Savant has him at -3 OAA, which is 34th out of 35 qualifiers at 1B. By the eye test, I didn't think he'd been that bad either, but it's interesting that all the advanced metrics seem to be in agreement. FWIW, Savant has him slightly above average on plays to his left, and well below average on plays going in and to his right.

He has botched a few easy plays, so I can sort of buy a -3 OAA (while still feeling pretty confident about his defense going forward).
The -6 DRS seems implausibly harsh, though, and as a result so does his -0.8 bWAR (where all of the negative value comes on defense).

I agree with cdj about Marwin. If you give him just a little bit of slack for being unlucky, he's fine. You gotta have reasonable expectations for what you're going to get at the plate from a valuable defender that costs $3 million in a league that's hitting .238.

Those team defensive numbers are honestly better than I was expecting, that’s what I get for reading + believing people on twitter complaining about their D for a month lol But I think that’s definitely a fair concern in regards to him being a Cora binkie if we have so many capable people doing what he does. Hopefully he’s relegated to more of a backup role, maybe play like 2-3 times a week or something

Of all the problems facing Major League Baseball -- and there are many -- there is none more pressing than having two sets of rules for the two "leagues." The National League needs to adopt the DH, as early as today. It's not just the risk of injury to AL pitchers (hello, Martin Perez), rallies killed because the pitcher is due up, and the competitive disadvantage when AL teams visit NL parks; it's the absolute absurdity of having different rules in different ballparks, even during the World Series. No other major sport has different rules for different teams/venues. And please don't talk to me about strategy and double switches, blah, blah, blah. This problem should have been resolved decades ago. Could you imagine if the NFL made a team’s kicker take a snap every 9 offensive plays and the QB cannot not be on the field for that play, but only in NFC stadiums? That’s how absurd the different rules for different leagues/parks is.

Didn’t know where to put this......3rd tile I’ve read vaguely mention of Sox pursuing max scherzer at trade deadline. Could be a fun season and I have to believe the cost won’t be ridiculous high. Sale, scherzer, oh wow!!

I would think one of the Utl guys would be moved to NL team 7/31 deadline.

Nothing to do with the series but I thought Noah Song was graduating from flight school in May and was to re-apply for exemption from his military commitment. Has anyone have any updates on this pitcher?

I think the team should extend Vazquez, the team has a $7m club option on him for next year.

Guidas that is great... Jesus and fans of 29 other teams hate the Yankees and their fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep this....my wife and I were in tears laughing when we saw this 😀 I was raised Catholic, and I’m still a Christian, so when I saw this that Catholic DNA in me cringed and I was sure I was going to do Purgatory time for posting it. Now I’m thinking it would make a great T-shirt I am Catholic and so is my wife, and believe Jesus has a sense of humor (and bet money he is not a Yankee fan)😀 It would make an awesome T-shirt, and you would sell a boat load.

As of 5:58 PM EST Sat May 22
AL East +19 AL Cent -11 AL West -2 NL East -9 NL Cent -5 NL West +8
This clearly show who the best division is from top to bottom. The Red Sox play 76 games against the AL East team (almost half the season). As the wild card is open to all AL teams there should be more balance (6 or 7 games against central and west teams vs 19 against East is not a reasonable schedule).

I think the team should extend Vazquez, the team has a $7m club option on him for next year. Why extend him before his current contract is due? It would probably be prudent to let it play out and see where he is in the 2022 off-season.

Sneak preview: I compiled all the stats for everyone who was in the game when Franchy was, beginning May 5. So when he was pinch hit for twice, the comp excludes that inning and the following. When he pinch hit in the 8th, it's only the stats from that inning.
His aforementioned .366 xwOBA is the second-best on the team, after Xander. The pitching was a bit weak -- the team overall is .344 -- but he hit those guys better than Verdufo, JDM, and Devers, in terms of EV and LA.
