Let's be honest. In no way does a team which gets swept at home in a crucial series deserve to make the post season. The Red Sox as currently constituted have a fatal lack of spine and it starts with their two best players who both let the team down when they needed to step up.

Not trying to be combative but there are 162 games in the season and the Sox as of right now with 6 games left would be in the playoffs as a wild card if it started today. To say they don't deserve to make the playoffs I find unfair. Now if you want to question whether they have the ability to make a run should they make the playoffs then that's a question I would agree with.

The Red Sox as currently constituted have a fatal lack of spine and it starts with their two best players who both let the team down when they needed to step up. Except that in the 6th inning of game 2, they had four consecutive hard hits and the last three were the three outs in the inning.
Only 12% of plate appearances are expected hard hits. If baseball were purely random, you'd see that once in 4,820 sequences of 4 PA.
Now consider adding the odds that three of those 4 balls are outs.
Batters do not control the direction of their hard-hit balls. Hitting a screaming line drive directly at a fielder is pure bad luck.
You could play that inning 100 times, with the hitters producing the same quality of PA, and at least 99 times it blows the game open. You get 3 hits, score 2 runs, and you still have a man on second with 1 out. That's the average result. With a little luck you've scored 3 runs and there are no outs.
And the next game had a absurd blown call by the ump that ended in a .460 swing in Win Probability.

More optimism in this thread than I’m feeling. The last three games tell me more about this team than do the prior seven.
When the dust settles on Sunday, we’ll be debating whether this season is more 1978 or 2011.
For the record, I hope I’m wrong.

One of the reasons that JDM has a subpar season (by his standards) is that he’s not feasting on LH pitching. I say he should start doing it in this series imho

JD’s plate discipline has been crap, worse than when Devers is in his free-swinging streaks

Never bench Schwarber versus lefties in favor of JD!

The great thing about Vazquez leading off is that you’re sure he won’t GIDP 😂

Slick play by Bobby. An underrated part of his development is showing he’s a better defensive first baseman than he showed in the first half this year.

Line drive single, shot down 3rd Lemehiue made a good play, line drive single. Deep flyball to right by Devers that your of Yankee Stadium. Our bullpen stunk. But, we can beat any team in a one game scenario.
