Hughes is starting the bigs today. SWB press release is strangely passive-aggressive.

They should have added a 'thanks' at the end to clear any confusion.

Is that former Sox minor Leaguer Tyler Wilson starting for Frederick?

Is that former Sox minor Leaguer Tyler Wilson starting for Frederick? I almost clarified this too, but no, it's not either of the former Sox Tyler Wilsons, but rather former UVA pitcher Tyler Wilson.

Do power arms have an advantage in the colder temperatures?

Looking forward to Pat Light this afternoon. Hopefully he shows something this year and has a future in the bigs.

Ranaudo tweeted that the portland game was postponed. Too cold to water the field. Prob 60 degrees in Trenton. Why do they open the season at home in Maine?

Sean Coyle with a leadoff homer. Always liked him. Good tools, little dude.

Marrero drives in Sanchez with a single. 2-0 Salem. Sanchez, Coyle and Marrero all stole bases in the inning, but only the one run.
Note that Cecchini was thrown out stealing after walking in his first PA.

Coyle is off to a great start. That's terrific news and let's hope he can keep it going.

5.0, 2, 0, 0, 2, 4 from Owens. I'll take it.
Nice to see Coyle go deep, but worth noting that Frederick is one of the top five HR-friendly ballparks in the minors, at least as compared to the rest of the league (obviously the full list would be all California and PCL parks)

Salem loses 3-2. Striz enters to pitch the 9th - double, sac, sac fly.

The guy announcing the Greenville / Charleston game sounds like Harry Carey's little brother.
I finally get to see Younginer and he throws 9 straight balls. It's not looking good.

Ranaudo tweeted that the portland game was postponed. Too cold to water the field. Prob 60 degrees in Trenton. Why do they open the season at home in Maine? April dates are an attendance killer to any minor league team regardless of location, the April games are evenly weighted throughout the league... typically NH and Portland open the season at home, then on the road the next season... It was FREEZING in NH today, 30 something degrees.

I bet the gate would kill

I think they should start with two weeks worth of games count in Florida I bet the gate would kill Now there's a damned good idea! An early season 'barnstorming' type tour with proceeds/concessions etc. divvied up. Otherwise and unless the first several weeks are perennially on the road, I am concerned that some of the northern teams, like the Portland Sea Dogs and NH Rock Cats will be abandoned and move south. Year after year Portland has 5 or so games cancelled due to cold April weather. Being Maine born and bred and a life-long Sox fan, losing the Portland location would be a blow to me and a zillion other fanatic Mainiacs. Pray for global warming on an accelerated scale.
