Now there's a damned good idea! An early season 'barnstorming' type tour with proceeds/concessions etc. divvied up. Otherwise and unless the first several weeks are perennially on the road, I am concerned that some of the northern teams, like the Portland Sea Dogs and NH Rock Cats will be abandoned and move south. Year after year Portland has 5 or so games cancelled due to cold April weather. Being Maine born and bred and a life-long Sox fan, losing the Portland location would be a blow to me and a zillion other fanatic Mainiacs. Pray for global warming on an accelerated scale. Something tells me that after 20 years the folks in Portland kinda understand what they're getting from April in Maine.

Those hardy people will show up no matter what. It's that the parent organization might consider abandoning ship and moving the AA franchise south. Maine Sox fans are about as rabid, loyal, and staunch as you can get. I have sat in the seats there with temps in the 30s and the wind whipping while witnessing huddled full houses. I don't want the perennial early season adverse weather to punish and deprive them of the chance to see Sox minor league prospects. June, July, August, Sept. are good. April & early May are "iffy" and you may need to bring parkas. MLB used to start its seasons in mid-April.....long before the weather became "hitterish" as the saying then went. To begin in Portland, 100 miles north of Boston on the coast with ocean temps still in the 40s in early April is not only undesirable but maybe longer term untenable

I don't think scheduled start of the season has changed meaningfully in that time. I don't see it as a big deal. Yeah, April sucks in Portland, but April sucks in a lot of places, including a lot of places where they have MLB teams. It was miserable in New York last week. Dealing with crap weather is just part of being a pro.

I think they should start with two weeks worth of games count in Florida I bet the gate would kill Now there's a damned good idea! Not gonna happen. and believe me, it's been talked about in NH for years... the fact that the sox have never invited NH to at Futures at Fenway speaks volumes, kind of sucky watching harrisburg, binghamton and bowie playing at Futures ar Fenway when Manchester is 40 miles away. I don't think NH or New Britain beats Portland....
