Greenville takes a 4-3 lead in the 9th inning on a Chester solo shot, a Weems single and a Miller double.
Bottom of the 9th coming up.

Damn. Hickory walk-off two-run two-out homer. Greenville loses 5-4.

Felix Sanchez with a home run and a steal. Salem leads 7-4. Marrero with two more doubles. Cecchini 3/3 with two steals so far.
Should be interesting what they do with Marrero come summer, because he's blocked by X and Iggy and high-A might not be a challenge (obv SSS).

This is the Jeremy Hazelbaker bandwagon. I'm driving. All are welcome here as we travel down the small sample highway toward midseason call-up land. Not gonna happen, but he's going to be a really interesting Rule 5 guy if he keeps this up (actually, if he keeps this up, he'll be a lock to be added to the 40-man roster).

As you'll recall I also drove the Nava and Reddick bandwagons very early on. Then again, I thought Alex Wilson could be a #3-4 starter in MLB so right now I'll just hang with position players.
And for the record regarding the 40 man Hazelbaker > a healthy Hassan, though that's not saying much.

Still concerned about the K's with Hazelbaker. He's not quite the hitter that Reddick is where those can be overcome as easily. With his speed, though, he might make a decent 4th/5th OF'er.

@evanlepler: Deven Marrero is gonna handle this level alright... Three doubles and two ridiculous defensive gems so far tonight...

No reason you can't start moving guys to other positions, like Marrero to 2b.
Are we sure Barnes didn't get hurt? 33 pitches s hardly a reason to take a guy out. Unless he was on a two inning limit.

Cechinni with a 4 for 4 and 2 more steals is a good day. A breakout year from him would be most welcome.
Haven't given up on Lavarnway or Sean Coyle. Both can absolutely emerge into the same sublime world Nava is now experiencing.

Marrero is so strong defensively he could move fast if he hits.

Just a guess here but we are cruizing for a logjam in general in the next year or so regarding rule 5 and 40 man protection. We have a lot of real solid prospects in AAA and AA ball. Trade before year end?

So Barnes only goes an inning, and RBLD gets rocked. Awesome. Wasn't RDLR supposed to only go 2 innings? Gave up 1 in the 1st and 2nd, and 3 in the 3rd getting only 1 out. Allowed 4 hits and a BB and all 5 guys scored. Not a great welcome to the Sox

Michael Almanzar 2/3 with two doubles and a walk. Is he again a legit prospect?

Not sure how I was unaware of this, but Mellen was aware: Sox pull guys if they reach 30 pitches in an inning. So there ya go.
Another reason why it's going to be fantastic to have pitch counts on milb.com this year.

I'm not terribly hung up on RDLR's start. Not great, but it's not as bad as it looks. Inning-by-inning:
1: 6-3, 1-3, HR, 1-3 2: HR, K, K, K 3: 3U, BB, 1B (infield), 2B
Has to cut down on the mistake pitches, but I'll take lots of weak contact otherwise. Doesn't look like everyone was squaring him up.

With the 30 pitch thing, rarely do you see a guy have a 30 pitch inning and not expect him to be pulled regardless as it's usually due to a crooked number sometime after the 1st inning.

Doesn't look like everyone was squaring him up. Way too early of course, and I don't know what kind of velocity he threw at yesterday, but the very early reports this spring had him throwing triple digits. However, that didn't materialize either in a televised game that saw him 92-95 with one pitch at 96 and a second at FWS where he was 91-94 with one pitch at 95... At each game other pitchers were throwing within 1-2 mph of those figures so there weren't gun problems. If he were throwing 97-100, put him in the pen and he might be able to get away with his less than stellar control. As a starter tho on very early results, it looks as tho there is a fair amount of development needed.
