I was surprised that he only has 17 errors* so far…I think the way official scorers are counting them this year plays a role. * Still leads MLB in errors though. 17 by today's math = 34.

Am I wrong in thinking almost all of those are on throws? Devers might thrive at 1B. He's likely to be a better 1B than Casas ever will be. But what then to do with Casas and Yoshida? It's a shame Devers can't fix his problems with errant throws because he makes some sensational plays at 3B but his issues have been going on for so long with no improvement I'm starting to doubt they are fixable.

It's a shame Devers can't fix his problems with errant throws because he makes some sensational plays at 3B but his issues have been going on for so long with no improvement I'm starting to doubt they are fixable. I think it's 50/50 for him, and it seems to be more mental then anything else. It's what makes him so frustrating sometimes, he will make very athletic plays one minute and then pooch a routine play either on the throw or the gather. I think it's too soo to give up on Casas at 1B, but they need better instructors for him. I've said in other conversations that I think he anchors himself too soon to first base and that limits his ability to pivot on even slightly errant throws. I wish I had a white board to draw what I mean. Essentially think of the surface area and edge of the bag at first base, especially this year with the comically large bags. If you always aim for the center edge of the bag and the ball goes left, or right, you have limited the range where you can pivot from to get a slightly bad throw. The trick really is to be "near" the bag but not anchor yourself until you see where the throw is, so maybe your pivot is on the left side of the bag, or the right side of the bag depending on where the ball is thrown. Picture a semi-circle drawn in the dirt from wherever you end up anchoring, and that semi-circle is what is in range to catch depending on where you anchor. As for Yoshida.. He doesn't have range, but he's not an absolute butcher in LF, and with 81 games at Fenway they should be able to clean up some of his failings with better positioning. I don't think he needs to be a full time DH yet, let's give him an offseason to better prepare himself for the rigors of MLB, considering he's never played here, I think he's done a pretty admirable job making the adjustments he has made. He was never going to be Ichiro. I defended Cora for a large swath of the past two years, but I don't know if it's a disconnect between him and the FO, or general apathy, but I think his time has run it's course. You can be frustrated with the resources you are given, but once you start putting your players in positions to fail to prove a point you loose credibility. He's been needlessly critical of Doogie, while protecting guys like Kiké and Devers. It's not a good look, especially because his public criticism depreciates the value of a trade asset. If they aren't going to re-sign Verdugo, they should be going out of their way to sing his praises, even if they are lying, because that is what serves the ballclub. I'll be interested to see what unfolds in the offseason. From a fan morale perspective, this is a make or break offseason for Bloom. Many fans are already willing to jettison him, and this ownership has a track record of quickly turning on guys they claimed 100% confidence in. I've not been enamoured with all of his moves, he's improved the farm, but the MLB club has been a cast of misfit toys now for 3 out of the 4 years he has been in charge. Lots could happen, get the popcorn ready.

If ownership didn’t push for the extension and he’s now preparing to hit the FA market this winter, what type of money do you guys think he’ll get? More years, less AAV?

Would Devers beat this contract if he were a free agent right now? I think yes, based on his age and the fact that he'd easily be the second-best hitter on the market right now; I think some team (and possibly the Red Sox) would go full Preller to get him. But the 4.1 Steamer and 3.6 ZiPS projections make me wonder.

Without ownership pushing for an extension, the player entering free agency this winter might seek a deal with more years but potentially at a lower average annual value (AAV). The exact terms would depend on various factors, including the player's performance, market demand, and other teams' interest. It's a dynamic negotiation process where both parties aim to find a mutually beneficial arrangement based on the player's skills and the team's budget.

Its also reasonable to suggest that Boston would be comfortable letting him go at that number too.
