Wait, Youk just said control = getting the ball in the strike zone, and command = getting the ball to hit a spot.
This has not been my understanding for the last... decades of my life. I thought control = getting the ball to go where you want it to go, and command = getting the ball to do what you want it to do (e.g., to get a curveball to dive or a sinker to sweep or whatever). Have I had that wrong this whole time?

For all the focus on Bello and Whitlock, Story is the guy they need back as much as anyone. I think they were like 54-43 with Story in the lineup last year or something like that Couldn’t have been from him…

That was an absolutely awful read by Verdugo on that pop out. He still needs improvement on his baserunning awareness.

Disastrous series of defensive plays there.

Our fundamentals are crap right now, really on Cora. Not hitting, fine, pitching rust, fine, but missing the cutoff multiple times is crap (season opener and this one)

Getting swept at home by the Pirates is bad right? They’re breaking ground. Nobody knew it was possible. Didn’t think I’d be working this afternoon, but it sounds more fun now. Back to the grind.

Some extremely questionable defense today. Casas should have taken the out at 1st and no one properly covering 3rd on that throw home.

Think I'm gonna call that sequence of defensive misadventures a "hodgepodge of nothingness."

Meet the 2023 Red Sox, same as the 2022 Red Sox. Good grief.

Pitching is fantastic, it's too bad the offense is just terrible. Yoshida, Duvall, Turner. Terrible signings. Gr8 b8 m8

Bad decision by Casas to try for the runner at third. Bad throw by Yoshida. Bad decision by Devers not to cut off the throw. Bad decision by Chang to not cover third. Bad execution by Wong not to block the throw at home. Bad catch/tag by Devers. Sigh.

One of the reasons I was optimistic on this team improving is that I thought there was no chance they were as bad at the little things this year as they were last year.... whoops!!

On the plus side I’m liking Ort’s composure, easy to let this crap show mess with your focus

Yes, you are wrong. The scout definition is that control = throwing strikes and command = putting the ball in a particular location. See, e.g., here (and you can just Google around for other examples): www.espn.com/mlb/insider/news/story?id=6455271

Yeah just went back and looked at his draft record, I was attributing some stuff to the wrong guy. Hand up that’s on me! Still helped with the foundation for 2018. Ppl can say he lucked out in 2013 but he went out and acquired a lot of those guys who were key cogs on that team. Still like what he’s doing in Pitt No worries lol. I will say it’s kinda remarkable how many on the 2018 were from Theo not Cherington. Mookie, Xander, Vazquez, Barnes, Bradley, all Theo. I do think Pittsburgh is the right place for him, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens there For me BC should be credited for somehow hanging on to all those guys, there were huge pushes from the fans for them to trade some Of those prospects for people at various deadlines and he held on. I will say there really aren’t too many prospects he traded that did anything. I remember thinking the irony that the best gm was so combo of BC and his unwillingness to trade too prospects and DD with free dealing for the mostly right free agents
