Did anyone mention Tom Caron referencing sox prospects earlier?

How many former Sox players are managing now? Baldelli Cora Cash Kapler Kotsay Am I missing anyone? How many of these guys were on the same team together? Roberts Ross Oh damn. They must have had 4-5 of those guys on the same team at one time.

Lucky to go +8 with two wins the last two days with all the BABIP luck. 17 runs but only 4 XBH, take advantage of it and get back to mashing to finish 5 games over at the break

With Reyes due back soon, I only see 4 likely things:
DFA Reyes DFA Hernandez DFA Arroyo Trade Duval

If this is all just Cora intentionally trying to piss off Pivetta by not letting him start, even when he’s essentially doing a starter’s workload, it seems to be getting good results.

Sounds more like Chaim got his way about using openers and now Cora feels good about it because the results have been nice

Some just before the All Star game break impressions - very pleased with Wong, Yoshida, Verdugo, Turner, Duran, Refsnyder - and Bello, Paxton, Martin, bullpen Pivetta. Hopeful about Casas, Kutter, Winck for better things in the second half - and pleasantly surprised by Walter and Murphy and Bernardino. I think we will see better things from Raffy and Arroyo as well, and Jansen has been fine.
Houck, Whitlock, Story and Schreiber - and Sale? - eventually returning should add optimism.
I've been bearish on the team so far, and predicted 79 wins, but finally am thinking it is low. Team has a better feel about it recently. My optimism is starting to reemerge!

Reyes is nearly back, Story not far behind. Valdez and Hamilton playing at Worcester. Would be most concerned about CF depth without him but Duran is backup CF, they can make it two months without him.

They mention it on Meg on WEEI if every Boston coach got fired so when they got to Boston I think one or two said they want to see Merloni get the next job . Another Sox.

More likely DFA trade Kiké + a lot of money for a low prospect. If they need money for a future trade, then they can add prospects. And Mata isn't worth Kiké's money. With Duran + Kiké, Duval is excess. LOL to the new Kiké autocorrect.

Yeah they can do that, I’d personally prefer attaching the prospect to Hernandez so there’s extra money to spend at the deadline. Dealing Duvall for an asset and holding Hernandez as backup CF is an interesting option too

A lot of people lately hoping to attach Bryan Mata to things to get a better deal. Addressed at no one in particular, but I think that is a pretty clear sign that attaching Bryan Mata will not get the Sox a tangibly better deal

Dealing Duvall for an asset and holding Hernandez as backup CF is an interesting option too I might catch some flack, but I’m opposed to trading Kiké. He’s an elite CF, solid 2B, and absolutely mashes if/when he’s in the postseason — just keep him the hell away from SS. I’d be more comfortable DFA’ing/trading Arroyo who’s been consistently injured and inconsistent with his play. Trading Duvall would be next on the docket to open up space for Story when he gets back and to be able to hold onto Chang, Reyes and Kiké as well as give Duran everyday playing time.

Not only is he hurt, but he was absolutely awful in Worcester. Only hope is that he can get better in time to prove that he might be a useful bullpen piece for the big league club next year.

So how much do we really think they have to give up to get off 40% of Hernandez’s contract? If it’s not Mata, it’s not somebody in the top 30

In 2019, they threw a bunch of randoms into the opener role for bits of the year. They never used it prior to 2019, as 2018 and 2017 had stable and healthy rotations. The Red Sox have really only utilized openers when forced by circumstances. Without injuries they wouldn’t but using it today.

“Trading Duvall would be next on the docket to open up space for Story when he gets back and to be able to hold onto Chang, Reyes and Kiké” — I like Reyes, and he plugged a hole at a time of great need, but I consider him just a guy.
Much as I like Refsnyder, I’d consider trading him if we could get some value in return, and use Duvall and Hernandez as extra outfielders.
Duran is the center fielder.

From that other guaranteed salary league, if this is happening in the NBA, it's got to be a factor in MLB. Not saying it's the factor, but equal or even slightly larger salary offers to FAs have to account for this. Add in for the Sox that getting to the playoffs has not happened consistently in Boston since 2018 (if a player wants to go to a winning team), and they could be back to the days of having to grossly overpay free agents to get them to come to Boston: www.bostonherald.com/2023/07/08/millionaires-tax-sent-celtics-forward-to-dallas-mavericks/
