Very impressive High A debut by our young flame thrower: filling the strike zone (74% strikes), Tons of whiffs (16) and pop ups (4) and grounders (6). The only blemish is the home run he gave up to the Asheville hitter who ambushed a first pitch.

So Joe Jones starts and pitches and inning, now Kluber is on.

If anyone is at the Portland game let us know how Story's arm looks at SS. Certainly something that could be a key for the Sox ML squad going forward. His bat still works

The best pitching prospect in the system Story with the 3 run jack Looks ready to bring the collective team SS wRC+ of 59 up, not to mention the -10 RAA.

Monegro just gave up his first Salem run. It took 18 2/3 innings to get him.
3 2/3IP 4H 1R 3BB 7K
Not bad, but that's his worst start of the year.

All of these pitching performances spur a question for Chris that I’d thought of during the pod with Jim, and maybe this is better for you and Ian to tackle on the pod together, but can you go a bit deeper into your stance that the system is down a bit from the start of the year? I was listening at work so could’ve just misinterpreted the statements but it seemed like y’all cited guys like Mata, Paulino, Walter all faltering as reasons that the system has maybe lost a little shine. I get that the top tier of prospects matter more, but I feel like the improvements we’ve seen to the depth of the system in the past few months have offset that, even more so when you consider Roman Anthony’s ascension. I’m not going to argue the system looks drastically better now than it did a few months ago (well, it does because of the draftees but that happens every year) but I’d certainly argue it isn’t worse, and I think it is more well-equipped for the type of trades the Red Sox might be looking to execute at this deadline, so I’d even say contextually better as well.
Again, if you think this would be a better question for the pod, consider this my submission to the email. Just happened to remember thinking this when I listened yesterday.

I did think it was a little strange that Chris and Ian didn’t push back on some of Callis’ negativity about the system, because it didn’t seem to square with the optimism they’ve shown recently.
