9/4-9/6 Red Sox @ Rays Series Thread

Pivetta just said how well the team played - not only tonight, but last night - talked about how the defense is playing well, the batters are grinding. Both he and Cora were definitely speaking to the team, not we the audience. Weird. It’s the “This Is Fine” meme where the dog is sitting in the burning room.

GOTTEM ... It's still true though? The Red Sox are not 20-39 against the Rays since 2000 which is how the tweet reads, so no it is not true and once again Pete is a bad writer. It’s incredible he gets paid to write at a middle school level The point that they are bad at the trop is definitely a fair one to make though. I think all of us here would’ve done a better job making it. We would probably use real stats, we would have possibly even formatted the sentence correctly

He’s always been in over his head with his gig at The Globe, though.

I actually don't read any of the beat writers - don't have a subscrip to the on line globe - just do a quick scan of articles on NESN, WEEI and Athletic. It's a mixed bag for sure.
I trust the baseball minds here much more, generally, to get it right!

Guys are dumping on Cora’s postgame comments, but I guess I’m not sure what he is supposed to say at this point. He doesn’t owe the fans a story, so why would he put players on blast? Conversely, if he were really honest, he’d start talking about his golfing plans, which might not fly, either. So into the Bull Durham-isms, and on to the next day.

To be honest, I don't think there is anything to lament about how they played yesterday. They lost 3-1 facing Tyler Glasnow pitching at the top of his game; whaddaya gonna do?
On the other hand they absolutely blew the game before that, especially with Abreu's don't-call-it-an-error in CF. Rafaela and Valdez each botched a play as well. But I can understand why Cora didn't think it was wise to go full Verdugo on three rookies in his comments to the press. (There was also that bases loaded squander where Duvall and Yoshida took called third strikes, but are you gonna call out Duvall for one bad PA when he's been hitting like Barry Bonds lately? Yoshida has been hot for the past week or so as well.)
The real sin of that game, of course, was Cora's using Jansen in the game before that. I don't know if anyone ever asked him about that, or what his response was.

This is f*cking awesome. Pedroia recounting the time he told Ben Cherington to buzz off when Cherington said after his first year in the minors, we want you to go back to High A after Pedroia had already hit .350 there.
"I had no idea who he was or that he was my boss."

I still support Jansen being used in the Monday game. You can't be sure that Tuesdays game will be close and Monday's game was close enough in my eyes. Bringing him in on Sunday with a 6 run lead is the manager blunder in my mind. Jansen should not waste any bulllets because Cora thinks he "needs work".

DS, Tomase, and Abraham are probably the worst trio of beat writers any team in any major league sport can claim right now. They’re the 2023 Red Sox defense of journalism. Match made in heaven.

I almost clicked on the article to read it but then thought nope, that's all this shmuck wants with such an absurd article.

Someone sent me the Tomase article, which has the exact content you'd expect. However, I had no idea Jasson Domínguez is actually younger than Mayer.

Tomase is so bad at this that he didn't even take a chance to blast the FO for failing to call up Rafaela earlier and using a short sample size to "prove" his point. LOLz

I guess Mayer is a bust for failing to make the majors by age 20. Such a shame.

DS, Tomase, and Abraham should get a DFA. Maybe they can be claimed off waivers by the San Diego news media. Then they can be reunited with Bogaerts to kiss his….. Do the Red Sox media writers think they have to be controversial to be read? Why can’t they just report what players say and leave it at that….. Actually the three of them should be picked up by CNN.

He had thrown one inning across eleven days, and he was kinda rough in that KC game
