It's gotten silly. Eventually we'll see a sub .500 team in the postseason, and it could even advance to the World Series and possibly even win it. The odds are stacked against this, but the door is open for it to occur. I hate how sometines baseball feels loje it's kind of watered down these days. The 2006 Cardinals had 83 wins. The 2000 Yankees 87. Mediocre teams have been making postseason runs for over 20 years (ever since the wild card became a thing). Either you want a postseason and need to accept that sometimes the best regular season team will not win it all, or you don’t. In which case the regular season stops mattering very early for all but 2 or 3 teams in each league. Even if the league champion goes straight to the World Series doesn’t guarantee the best team will win. Heck the 1914 Braves outperformed their Pythagorean record by five wins, and were lucky to make the World Series before sweeping a A’s team loaded with hall of famers. I get it, but at least the 73 Mets who lost the Series, the 06 Cardinals and the 87 Twins can hang their hats on the fact that they won their division and beat out at least five other teams within the division. A weak wild card team cant even claim that much.
