Getting beat by the rare Harold Ramirez walk and Ahmed effing Rosario, one of the worst MLB players imo, hurts really bad.

With the current roster construction the 500 mark seems to be a magnet within 5 games either way.

NESN post game just showed the three ABs with the Abreu lead off double - then compared with Tampa's at bats. We overswing and pop it up, they go the other way and move the trains.
What sort of approach is being preached by Fatse? And when will Grissom emerge? I won't waste words on Dom Smith.

If you're changing most of the coaching staff, why not the hitting coach too? Grissom is going to get a lot of leash. Let’s please remember he missed all of spring training. And honestly I think we’re stuck w/ Dom Smith until there’s a more viable LH 1B option (it ain’t gonna be Kavadas).

I`d rather give Kavadas a shot now and find out if he`ll need to be protected this winter. For the next 6-8 weeks (until Casas is hopefully back) give him his shot. Right now might be the most value they ever get out of Kavadas unless he has any trade value. Valdez could learn 1B in Woo. The more positions he can play adequately the better.

He's 5' 8". You could stack 5 Valdez' and the top one wouldn't be able to see over he wall.

Unless the FO is convinced that Kavadas has incredible trade value if left in Worcester and will continue to rake, Kavadas seems like a worthwhile experiment now for the Sox.

Stealing a line about Altuve from Keith Law, the Green Monster is 6.558 Valdez' high. Aside on heights.. I once had a text conversation with Eric Jarinko of the Greenville Drive. He told me he won a bet with Dustin Pedroia on who was the tallest. Jarinko is 5' 7". ADD: He also told me that back in the day, they didn't actually measure players, they just recorded what the players told them on their personnel forms. Some of that data went all the way to the majors.

The story of the 2024 Red Sox: Triston Casas was off to a good start, with a 133 wRC+, improved defense, and 0.5 WAR in 22 games, on pace for almost 4 WAR.
Then he got hurt. And in 9 games as a LHH 1B replacement, Dom Smith has -0.5 WAR, entirely cancelling out Casas' contribution.

Dom Smith makes Bobby Dalbec look like Willians Astudillo (career 4.8 K%). What an awful at bat in the 9th. At least Dalbec can bunt and run.

I'd just as soon just keep Smith on the bench.

Smith has -1.9 WAR and an 82 wRC+ since 2021. (But only a 19.6% K rate!) I don't really understand why they thought this experiment was worthwhile. A lefty who can't hit righties or lefties doesn't actually give you a platoon advantage...

As to why they thought he was worthwhile I think it was reasonable to get a slightly below replacement backup 1B to Cooper. I think they're playing him way too much, but the thought was fine I guess. Another thing is that he was really hot in September last year, running an >.400 xwOBA, so maybe they thought there was something real there, but I don't know. I'm totally ready to move on though, give Kavadas a chance.
