Really makes you wish you could be in four places at one time. Science fails us again.....

I wonder if they up Rubby's pitch count and see if he can give you 5 or so innings. He looks to be progressing nicely and as much as I want him to continue being a starter, if the Big Club has anymore injuries to the bullpen he could help now.
It will also be interesting to see how Hank bounces back form his one rough outing. The kid has "major league pitcher" written all over him, not just because he's left-handed or has good stuff, but because he seems to have a solid head on those shoulders.

Love his makeup.................and his stuff! It will be interesting to see his adjustments after his last outing. I'll be surprised if he doesn't come out and be "smoking".

If you have regular access to that Salem team you are really getting a treat. While everyone raves about Portland's stars, I think Salem is almost as intriguing with Owens Cecchini and Swihart. All three look like they could be solid, solid players and while they may take a bit more time to really develop because they are so young, there is soooooo much talent there.

Hank was very pleasant when I quizzed him on the radar gun in Frederick and Kyle Stroup's stuff ... can't tell much from a 5-10 minute chat, but had a nice little conversation, seemed like a good guy.
re: RDLR's pitch count, he was up to over 70 last time out, so I suspect he'll be at around 75 pitches for a few starts. If he's fairly efficient, he could get to 5 innings with that, but RDLR isn't exactly Greg Maddux that way ...

Any reason why we are calling Henry Ownes "Hank"? I have seen it a few times and assume that it not an accident.

Salem is quickly becoming the first box score I check. One of the other reasons is Coyle, which has been very disappointing lately. After a great start he has cooled off big time .077/.136/.256/.393 over his last 10 ball games, which includes a 2 HR game ten games ago, he is 0 for his last 26 and 1-35 since that 2 HR game with 13K's. Salem will continue to be very intriguing with or without him, but I'd very much like to see Coyle bounce back after this rough stretch, as he is making that Coyle vs. Cecchinni thread almost laughable at this point.

"Coyle vs. Cecchinni thread almost laughable at this point."
Was pretty laughable at the time, IIRC. Would be nice to see him bounce back.
The reason I'm not worried about Owens is the same reason I'm not/wasnt worried about Bogaerts/Barnes. Most reports seem to paint them as guys who keep things in perspective, work hard, and love baseball. At that point, they'll get everything they can out of their talent... can't worry a ton about their first few months at a new level (I know Xander had a couple at Portland last year, but he's 20 years old). But I completely agree that I run to that Salem box score.
Early in the year I'm interested in a guy like Workman, who at this age/level should be starting to show what he is (as far as pitching into games, keeping his stuff, going through lineups multiple times) if he wants to stay as a starter for a while. Someone like Hazelbaker (25 y/o, 240G at AA+AAA) is another (who I think has had a nice start to the season, and I'm interested in the reports on him)

kind of unrelated to anything, but out of curiosity is the pronunciation of Cecchini's name on this site correct? Just because there have been a number of times where I have said a prospect's name in my head for years only to find out I've been wrong the whole time when he finally makes the big leagues.

Yes, Chek-KEY-knee, or however you want to spell it out.

As opposed to KA-chee-knee, which is what I had been saying in my head for the last 2 years.

There's going to be some serious heat in that Greenville game with Montas and De Paula throwing. Also the Drive may strike out 15 times.

In Italian, a C is (generally) pronounced like the English CH and the CH is (generally) pronounced like the English hard C (or K). So Chianti is "key-AHN-tee" and a cello is a "Chello" ... hence, "Che-KEE-nee"
Because if you can't bring in random displays of somewhat-related knowledge, what's a message board for?

Yeah, but it's not like we actually pronounce our last names based on the way they would be pronounced in their language of origin.
Like, nobody calls him Mike N-ah-poli, including Napoli himself.

2BB/H in the first .2 IP for Rubby so far... it begins. But he gets through the inning clean and followed it up with 2 perfect innings

The point was that Coyle had been written off to a degree but he was a better prospect than was being considered at the time. And the trend lines went up from there until he started leading the league in HR for a while. He has the potential to be a mlb level player, albeit an unconventional one with inordinate pop for a 2nd baseman. Possibly he is pull happy now after having so much HR success early? My bet is that he adjusts and pulls out of it. He has the potential to be a solid hitter and he does field well. More experience should help him in particular as he refines his approach. He and Swihart are both 9 months younger than Cecchini at the same level. My bet is that both surge at some point this year.
