I think Ball is a nice pick. That's kind of the only hand they had to play at that point.
I knew Theo wouldn't be dumb enough to pass on Bryant. Great job by him.

"Comment From Signability of the Times What team has gotten the most production and/or trade value out of their draft picks over the last 10 years?
10:56 Al Skorupa: Probably Boston? They’ve had some good ones. Lot of Red Sox backup catchers around the league. Smaller time frame might be Cards? Rays?"
Thought this was neat. Comment from Skorupa's draft chat.

Are Ball and Stankiewicz considered guys who will sign under-slot? There's still some good talent available and I'd like to see us snag one or two of Tellez, Denney, Boldt, Sandberg, Brentz, Wahl, Hannemann or Hernandez.

Slot Values
1. $3,246,000 2. $1,229,600 3. $671,200 4. $454,800 5. $340,500 6. $254,900 7. $191,100 8. $157,500 9. $147,200 10. $137,400
Total: $6,830,200 + $3,415,100(5%; pay tax) would put us at $10,245,300.
We certainly have enough dough to snag up some tough-signs in rounds 3-5.

Possibly Stanky because he wouldn't be eligible for the draft again until 2015 if he doesn't sign. He wanted to sign with the Mets last year for slot but went to a junior college so he could be eligible this year. It sounds like he wants to sign, but didn't want to for the $600k that the Mets offered. Maybe we can sign him for $1 million which would save about 230k. Then again, this is a total guess.

I was wondering the same thing with Ball, if he would sign under-slot at $3M, which would save us $246K.

Ball went right around where many expected him to go. There is no reason for him to sign under slot as he was not a reach. Sign to slot and get him into the organization quickly and restrict his dunking activities so he doesn't hurt himself by twisting an ankle or worse.

Rowdy Tellez looks best fit at the 3rd round.
