Britton still starting at this point says to me that they view him as trade bait now more than as a prospect who can help the big club. He's on the 40 and out of options and clearly his only role in Boston would be in the bullpen yet he's still starting. I think they don't want to lower his trade value to somebody who might still like him as a starter. Thoughts.

There is less rush than you think.

I think they don't want to lower his trade value to somebody who might still like him as a starter. Thoughts. Power lefties aren't too common, and with Britton harnessing his stuff a lot better lately, there's still some promise to keeping him in the rotation. You'd like to see him move up to AAA at some point, but there's a bit of a logjam, although I'm sure they could find a rotation spot. Also, he's still only his second option year. FWIW, Britton's given up just 1 ER total in his last 4 starts, and has completed the 8th and 7th innings in the most recent two. The SO/BB numbers on the season are also by far the best we've seen from him since Greenville three years back. You're right in that he's always seemed destined to be an effective reliever at the big league level, but with him taking some significant steps forward as of late in Portland's rotation, and not any real rush at the moment, this would seem a somewhat curious time to make the change.

He's also been dominant his past 2-3 starts. It all started with a visit from Pedro. I think they need to see where this goes, but if something has clicked, he can be and should be a starter for Boston at some point. He has that talent if he can control it well.

Didn't see this coming: RDLR down, Pedro Beato up.

Didn't see this coming: RDLR down, Pedro Beato up. You think RDLR was just insurance if they needed a guy to go multiple innings in the pen?

The surprising part is Beato being the one to come up. I thought it would have been Carter, who's been better both recently and over a longer period of time.

De La Torre is already on the 40-man and pitched OK in his first call-up. Also, I'm not sure the front office places much faith in a month of AAA relief innings; if De La Torre scouts better, it doesn't matter much that Carter was statistically better the last twenty innings pitched or whatever.

And by De La Torre I mean Beato, of course.

Didn't see this coming: RDLR down, Pedro Beato up. Not to mention? Lester has another 4-5IP start where he's in trouble throughout and RDLR could have possibly gone3-4IP to save the still not back to normal BP.

I use Safari and it didn't let me edit when I tried, so I'm guessing they don't use the proboards app ether.

Hissey's first HR is to straightaway center, over the 400ft sign

This isn't the dominance Lester suddenly showed circa 2005 in AA, but I think you have to let this effective pitching as a starter for Britton play out and see where it leads. At the very worst, it makes Britton an incredibly valuable trade chip, but there's nothing wrong with coming up with a cost-controlled #4 starter, which is probably the other end of the spectrum.

Wow, he got out of bases loaded, no outs with just giving up 1 unearned run?
Impressive.

Hissey could be someone they lose in the Rule 5 draft this winter. Pretty much someone they have exactly like in Hazelbaker (more power) and Hissey is a lot like Lin, without the arm. He could get taken by someone like Houston.

Hissey has a lot in common with Lin. Hissey probably will end up as a defensive replacement at the MLB level making trips back and forth to AAA as long as he plays. Shame. Always liked him.
