Their next game is August 4th. The latest Story can come back (rehab time limit) is August 9th. Imma go ahead and say that a 5 game range in the projected return date for a player who's missed the first two-thirds of the season is not worth anyone getting their dander up about. see my post. there are some series that are more important than others.

ill say one last thing on the Story situation, as a reminder. This coming series has the potential for a 6 game swing relative to the Blue Jays. We are at home. His availability as pinch runner / hitter, defensive replacement, starter...whatever....could be very important. He can have that kind of impact.

i can't agree with this whole take, sorry brother. and as far as the bold, i think people have been very patient with him. I know you mean in the near term, but i am talking since he signed. Players play hurt, underperform, all the time. He should get up here now, his timing / confidence is the least of my concern. You literally don’t care if he costs them games right now, that’s wild to me. History is repeating itself, this is the same nonsense we heard when Schwarber was acquired. it really can't be proven that it will gonna cost us games, unless he is actually playing those games. and his baserunning, glove, presence in the lineup might mean the opposite. I mean, if he just walks 1 a game, his OBP will be higher than Chang. Edit : your edit was pure projection. I can respect his decision to stay down, it is his life, but i can also disagree with it, for the baseball reasons i have stated.

I understand his player profile, he doesn’t normally strike out 40% of the time in the majors let alone AAA. People need to be patient, just because the deadline is over doesn’t mean there is a deadline to get him in now or he can’t play going forward. As mentioned on the prior page this is the exact same nonsense people said about Schwarber when acquired- “what’s the point? It’s gonna be too late to make an impact. They didn’t get better at all” We’ll survive another series with Yu Chang. He’s probably the better defender between the two anyway so if both aren’t gonna hit today then who would you rather play? Let Story get another 20 ABs so that he can get his timing. i can't agree with this whole take, sorry brother. and as far as the bold, i think people have been very patient with him. I know you mean in the near term, but i am talking since he signed. Players play hurt, underperform, all the time. He should get up here now, his timing / confidence is the least of my concern.

yeah. If Story is still having some discomfort from the injury, i can respect him wanting to stay down. If he is having some discomfort with this hitting timing...etc..etc..., i am not down with that. He can make the adjustments to ML pitching on the fly, he has some career at bats under his belt.
Heard around here so many times his glove will make the difference alone, time to prove that theory correct. And his bad hitting is likely better than Chang's very good hitting.
Disappointing news. The team needs what he has and that need should be here today.

You know the Mariners comeback was brewing when DOB started marveling about how the Sox owned the series the last 2 years lol in s way, you can't blame Bloom for playing the middle at the deadline. Between the coach (who does deserve criticism) and the way this team lacks consistency, it may be the correct tact. Big series against Jays. Hope the boys come ready to rock.

Love Devers, even with the warts, but if you are gonna call out the FO for help, you gotta be squeaky clean 99 percent of the time.

Would anyone else be happy going with this 13 on next year's opening day roster: 1B: Casas 2B: Urias SS: Story 3B: Devers OF: Duran, Verdugo, Yoshida C: Wong DH: Turner Bench: Valdez, Rafaela, Refsnyder, McGuire Fair. I’m not happy with Urias penciled in… surely you can do better. And I don’t like the OF. Three lefties, no significant power. Indeed, that lineup is too lefty with Casas and Raffy thrown in. But it doesn’t suck. I really think they should trade Verdugo and get a power hitting RH OF. Would make a big difference in the middle of the lineup. i agree on the OF power. We need the possibility of more thump, IMO. Story, we'll see if he can play a whole year before I get too excited there.

not even 1 inning last night before the hard crash. daytime baseball. let's win this and go back home with a 3-3 road trip, which is acceptable.

Part of me feels like Bloom is trying to have it both ways though. If he is hesitant to buy because it is a sellers market, then it is strange that you wouldn't take advantage of that, as has been pointed out, with tradeable assets. Surely, there was some guy on the current squad who could yield return greater than he would normally get.
I just get the sense he has a tendency to be risk adverse and is supremely confident in his process. We'll see

it may have been a boring deadline, but it wasn't a boring deadline thread. There was some funny stuff out there.
I hope we win tonight though, the game thread could get real volatile if not. Of course, at this point, i will be luck to last 2 innings with these GD west coast starts.

i think he feels very confident in the team he has this year, which at times, has been very strong. I don't see how you don't add pitching, though. He is in the best position to do that, right now, than he has been since he arrived.
