Derrick Loop is still getting after it? That’s wild He's only 39 which I will have you know is NOT THAT OLD THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I seem to have some sort of vague recollection of once upon a time being 39.

As others have said, congrats and many thanks to all the folks who have made SoxProspects what it is.
I wish I could remember when I first discovered SoxProspects but I no longer have sufficient functioning neurons for that task. A good portion of those hours though were spent while I was at work (my boss never caught me!). I retired 11 and a half years ago and was addicted to SoxProspects long before that.
I've always been much more of a reader than a poster for the simple reason that my baseball expertise is <1% of the average poster on this site, not to mention the expertise of Mike, Chris and the other staff members and contributors who make SP the amazing place it is. Due to my time spent here I can sometimes retain just enough to convince friends (and even my kids! (and now even my grandkids!!)) that I know something.
Thanks and keep up the great work!

When I key in SoxProspects or click a link to it I get the rankings but there's no top line menu (Home, Transactions, Team Rosters, etc.). To get into other parts of the site, like the Forum, I have to add that to the url I'm using. Then everything is fine unless I go back to the rankings page.
- Dick
PS: Minor correction. FWIW the way around isn't as I described. You just do a search with the two words "soxprospects" and "forum" (or whatever page you want).

If the offense can keep up the 9 runs per game pace, this season is going go be a blast. Sox on on pace for 108 wins! What's not to like? Well ... the Rays on on pace for 162 wins, 54 gams in first, so I guess there's that.

Old friends list, Puerto Rico Chris, can you take a rough guess at where the Puerto Rican Winter League would fit in compared to the US minor leagues? (The son of a friend of mine is playing down there.)

Sad day. JBJ is one of my all time favorites. Ditto! As exciting as it is to watch clutch home runs (THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, Papi!), the plays I will sit and watch and re-watch in slomo a dozen times or more are the great defensive plays. JBJ provided way more than his share. Those occasional streaks when he hit like a HOFer were icing on the cake.

Let me see if I can make this work: Rank Player Prev Change 1 Triston Casas 1 0 2 Marcelo Mayer 2 0 3 Nick Yorke 3 0 4 Jarren Duran 4 0 5 Brayan Bello 6 1 6 Jay Groome 8 2 7 Bryan Mata 10 3 8 Miguel Bleis 15 7 9 Brandon Walter 17 8 10 Blaze Jordan 7 -3 11 W. One very important piece of trivia you failed to mention was that, unless I've missed something in the first few years, this list contains the first prospects ever ranked here with last names beginning with "U"! I'm glad this oversight has finally been rectified. :-)

As Chris said, not much movement, especially at the top. - The only change in the top 10 was Jordan Blaze (now #9) and Jay Groom (10) switching spots.

- Josh Winckowski also up a couple, from 16 to 14.

- Christian Koss up from 37 to 33.
- Durbin Feltman moved from 41 to 34.

With that said, win this ONE GAME, and the entire season is a complete success. The season is already a complete success regardless of what happens tomorrow. Yes! In March my hope was they'd be .500 or so but I would not have been surprised if they hadn't gotten there. I just didn't want to be embarrassed again like 2020. My slightly irrational hope was that they'd still be in the playoff mix come September. They're IN the bleeping playoffs!!! Of course during the season they were very bad for a while, very good for a wile, very bad, ... and the expectations, hopes, and fears bounced all over the place. Who the hell knows which team will show up tomorrow (or afterward). Go Sox!

Not as many changes as last month but still a lot of news: - Nick Yorke was # 8 in August but he's now the 3rd ranked prospect!
- For the 2nd straight month Duran and Downs both dropped a spot due another player's ranking. last month it was Mayer's and this month Yorke. The non-Martinez JD's are now at 4 & 5 respectively.
- In the 8/8 rankings Connor Seabold fell from 6 to 9 but he got a piece of that back moving up to 8.
- Jay Groome up from 10 to 9.
- Blaze Jordan jumped from 13 to 10.
- Chris Murphy is up from 16 to 13.
- Wilkelman, ranked at 54 on 6/30 and 20th on 8/8 is now at # 14.
- Noah Song is down 3 at 15.
- Miguel Bleis is now 13th, up from 23rd last month and 35th in July.
- Eddinson Paulino is up from 29 to 21.
- Ceddanne Rafaela moved up 20 spots from 43 to 23. That's still not up to his highest at # 19 in February, 2020.
- Brandon Walter moved up 15 spots to 26.
- Shane Drohan up from 37 to 32.
- Victor Santos moved up 9 to # 36.
- Christian Kossa up 18 from near the bottom at 55 to 37.
- Eduardo Vaughn down from 34 to 38.
- Chih-Jung Liu is at # 40, up 7.

- Chase Shugart was last ranked # 59 on 6/1 and is back at # 57.
- Kole Cottam is at 59, right where he was 2 months ago.
- Raynel Espinal slipped back into the rankings in the last spot. He was # 53 on 6/1.
- Falling out of the top 60 this time are:
- Jose Adames (from 54);
- Jojan Mieses (56);
- Tyreque Reed (57);
- Jaxx Groshans (58).
[li]Last but not least, Tanner Houck, 5th last month, graduated from prospect stats.[/li][/ul] Meanwhile I'm falling for it again! The Red Sox are teasing us again, up 4-0 with a chance to split in Tampa ... I'm too old for this!!

If we blow this series, which is quite possible, it's all over this year. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted. They're 8 games out. Sweeping the series is the only thing that can give the Sox division title hopes but doing so is more likely to help the Yankees than the Sox. This series is likely to determine nothing. The Sox best case scenario is hosting the Yankees in the Wild Card game at Fenway. Their most likely scenario is playing that game in New York. Even if the Sox got swept by Tampa that doesn't mean Oakland runs away and sews up the 2nd wild card spot. You're being overdramatic. The 6-14 skid and Tampa's solid playing has rendered this series no more important than playing Cleveland or Baltimore. I have really mixed emotions about this series. I find it hard to pull for their opponent but in truth they have virtually no chance at all of really accomplishing anything this year even if they do squeak into the wild card. I do NOT want to help the Yankees.

I was pretty shocked at how well they played for the first 100 or so games. I'm beyond shocked, stunned, at how badly they're playing now. This is epic. I guess it's "Go Rays" time. Anybody but the MFY.

Huge number of changes in the rankings this month. It's easy to see why they were delayed a bit. Thanks to the ranking crew for their hard work! - The big question has been re who would top the list. The verdict is in and Triston Casas stays at # 1 with Marcelo Mayer joining the list at # 2.

- Gilberto Jiminez is 6th, down 2 since 6/1.
- Nick Yorke is up from 9 to 8.
- Connor Seabold fell from 6 to 9.

- Brainer Bonaci dropped from 13 to 15.
- Thad Ward rose from 20 to 17.
- Matt Lugo down 1 to the 18th spot.
- Wilkelman Gonzales, near the bottom at 54 last month, rose 34 positions to slide into the top 20 at #20!
- Jonathan Arauz moved up from 25 to 22.

- Enderso Lira, an IFA from this year, is on the list for the first time at 32.
- Jeisson Rosario fell from 24 to 33.
- Eduardo Vaughan is on a bit of a ranking roller coaster. He was at # 47 in January, 58 in June, out of the top 60 in July, and is now back at 34th, his highest ranking.
- Bradley Blalock and Shane Drohan are at 36 & 37, both down 9.
- Hudson Potts is next at 38, down 12.

- Durbin Feltman is down 10 at # 40. Durbin's highest ranking was in April of '19 at # 9.

- Jaxx Groshans dropped from 42 to 58.
- Joe Davis, 19th pick in '19, is ranked for the first time at 59.
- Nathanael Cruz rounds out the top 60, falling from 46.
- Out of the top 60 since 6/1:
- Aldo Ramirez (from # 8) who went to Washington for Schwarber.

FWIW, the move to monthly updates was intentional and part of putting a better process in place, not just a matter of having time. Also a function of multiple people having a say in the voting rather than just Mike. Yah, didn't figure those were the big reasons. Just goofin' on it a bit. IIRC the timing was about right.

It hasn’t been updated since 5/3. The updates should be every month. What’s going on? For some reason this sent my brain back to days of yore when the rankings were updated multiple times per month, sometimes more than once in a week. Then Mike & the mods graduated, got jobs, got married, had kids ... :-) The updates are less often but the site has never stopped getting better!

I honestly think Sale is going to be one of the best pitchers in baseball for the next 5 years and the HOF will be an obvious yes. Nothing in his resume says anything different, when healthy he is a top 3 pitcher. He competes really hard and takes pride in it, always has and always will. I wouldn't be surprised if he is going strong for the next 10 years, hopefully for Boston. My fingers are so tightly crossed they're losing circulation!

Inclined to agree except for the fact that vaccination does not preclude one from getting Covid, it does however lessen the symptoms or the likelihood of hospitalization. Me, personally, I want everyone to act responsibly and get the damn vaccine. it's 2 days, 30 minutes of your life if you get the Pfizer or Moderna. If you're a dude, the chances you even have side effects are minor compared to women (something to do with women's hormonal response to the vaccine, and I'm not saying this from a sexist place). This is yet another example of we can't have nice things because 40 percent of our population eats paint chips. But I do agree, there should be a consequence for refusing science and choosing ignorance, but that is a dangerous road to walk down in any supposedly free society. Best we can hope for right about now is natural selection. Who knows, maybe another 4-7 years of this and the commensurate IQ of surviving Americans might finally trend positively.. If I am a Major League Baseball player in my 20’s and in my physical prime, there is NO WAY I would get that vaccine. Especially given a 99.998% survival rate if I DO get it. If I am 75 years old and 80 pounds overweight with diabetes, I’d be at the front of the line, however. Don’t pretend this vaccine or the threat of the virus are the same for everyone. There are a lot of different factors at play here. If it were all about the individual who doesn't get vaccinated, then fine. There are two other aspects of this though. 1. If you are not vaccinated you (i.e. the impersonal "you", not referring to you, benzinger) raise your chance of getting the disease (whether you're sick or not) and spreading it to others who may become very sick or worse. 2. In addition, if you get COVID-19 you automatically become an incubator. You will have several hundred million copies of the virus in you and your body will be making copies of them constantly. The copying process is not 100% accurate so you could win the lottery and be the patient who gives birth to a new more contagious and more lethal variant. In short, to those who just don't want to get the vaccine, my reply is "It's not all about you!".
