Please just punt on this season and don’t make any rash moves that will restrict team flexibility for ‘25-‘26. In a strong no on the sign Monty idea now. Play the kids! 1 year deal where they can get an asset for him at the deadline would be beneficial to 25-26. I’d be all for that. I just think it’s going to take a larger commitment than that to secure Monty.

Management has already been dragged through the wringer from a PR standpoint. They should just embrace the hate and take the hit that comes along with signing Bauer on a 1 year deal. He’s better than Clevinger or Ryu and has a connection with Kyle Boddy.

Robertson to the Rangers. Does this change the calculus for Monty?

Seeing some smoke on Twitter about Montgomery and the Red Sox. I hope for love of God there’s a fire… Link? Don’t bother. It’s the same guy who said Soler to Sox was imminent as well so….

International Signings page updated: www.soxprospects.com/international.htmStill working on double-checking the numbers and facts across the board, fixing any errors. Fix update to come shortly. About $1M left over which is slightly more than they spent on post-January IFAs last year. 14 $100K prospects this year vs. 8 last season.

Bauer gave a hell of an interview / apology today , he deserves a second chance like everyone else in this life Perhaps he’d be looking for a…..pillow contract?

My god just let this saga come to end by today, one way or another, so that we can know where the Sox stand and the rest of free agency can start to pick up.

Will there be an update to the rankings soon now that the draft class is signed and trade deadline is passed? Anxious to see where the new guys land! TY

Red Sox and Dodgers are the only teams to not have signed any undrafted free agents so far. I wonder why they haven't had any interest on that front? Gotta figure there's someone they'd be interested taking a flier on.

Duvall officially placed on IL but still no announcement on the severity. Dalbec is the corresponding move. Why can't we have nice things??

Kodai Senga has filed for free agency from the NPB. He'll be 30 in January but posted a 1.94 ERA in 144 innings with 156K/49BB last season and has a career 2.59 ERA in 1,089 innings and 10.35 K/9. No posting fee attached so I hope the Sox take a close look at whether he could be a viable option.

Ft. Myers Beach has been getting absolutely wrecked by the storm surge. Houses floating away off of their foundations, etc. The videos I'm seeing on Twitter are awful. Super sad to see and thinking about everyone being impacted by this storm.

This is why standing mostly pat is stupid. Everyone is getting better, you weakened your already weak team by getting rid of your catcher. Commit to something by buying or selling, but I'd prefer sell. #chaimtogo

Luis Perales so far: 3IP, 0H, 0ER, 0BB, 8K Yeah. I think this guy bears watching. He is listed at 6'1" at 160 lbs. He just turned 19 in April. As Steve and I mentioned recently, he throws mid to possibly upper 90's ... Now! He appears to have pretty good command too...nice combo. When we watched him, he was elevating the fastball and consistently blowing it by hitters. He will appear in SP's top 60 soon..not much doubt. Bleis with speed and power...another guy on the make. Perales is at 52 right now but completely agree, he is trending to shoot up if this continues.

Love the list for July! Wondering how close Lobo got to cracking the top 60?

In your hypothetical, you would just stack the pitching so that Sale and Houck pitched in Fenway instead of on the road. I’m pretty sure that Bloom wouldn’t make a trade in anticipation of a series that is months after the trade deadline anyway. He’d need to have a pretty good crystal ball to pull that off. Fully understood, however, circumstances don't always allow teams the opportunity to set their rotation perfectly for a playoff series and it becomes just one more obstacle to deal with, and an unnecessary one. Most likely you could set them up that way but if they couldn't and Cora had to resort to a mish-mash of pitchers to get through games while a fully healthy Sale/Houck idle by the border it would be difficult for him to defend.

I think JD Me has also made a decision that will keep him off the field in Toronto. I was wondering about him too. There's another series in Toronto in September and its possible we could play them in the postseason as well. All hands needed on deck. It's not outside the realm of very possible chance that Boston could square up against Toronto in a playoff series. You've got Sale & Houck on the record as unvaccinated. If Canada's regulations don't change between now and then it's possible half your postseason rotation (4 starters) is in unavailable for those away games. If Sale gets healthy could we envision Bloom potentially trading him (or Houck?) for a strong SP option that would be eligible for those games?

Rich Hill will make his start today, despite the very recent death of his father. Some guys are willing to do everything they can to help the team, even if it means personal sacrifice. Kudos to Rich Hill. While others are most clearly not...cough..Houck..cough cough. Condolences to Rich Hill and his family. Sometimes the distraction of playing can be the best way to get through these difficult times.

Man, I just don't see it ever happening with Jeter Downs. Obviously insanely small sample size but 6Ks in 8ABs to start the spring. Even in the AFL last year where everyone was singing his praises he was still only able to hit .200 with a 34% K rate after a terrible season in Worcester. With Story signed long-term, Xander hopefully returning, and Yorke/Mayer in the pipeline I hope he get have a hot start in AAA so Bloom can package him for a position of greater need.
