Karson Simas' Player Page has a bunch of carryover information from a Michael Chavis page.

2) In terms of the organization's general philosophy, I think I disagree with the notion that anything's changed, at least in-season. If anything, I think there are fewer phantom DL guys than in the past - I think I see two guys on the DL who I don't know to be actually hurt, whereas in the past there were phantom DL catchers at every level, and typically a couple phantom DL relievers. Admittedly I don't have any hard evidence to back this up, and I absolutely defer to you Chris on whether guys are phantom-DL'd or not, but after staring down the org chart for a number of years, it doesn't feel quite right to me. 8/25 in Greenville, 5/25 in Salem...plus those numbers are most likely going to increase with this big roster crunch. But like I said, if you know most of those guys are actually dinged up, I believe ya. Just one man's observation.

I wonder if Trey Ball's spot on the Portland roster could be vulnerable. Cuts could be on the table, but it seems like the org's been more willing to just load up the DL this year instead of outright cutting people. Either way, my money's on McAvoy. A head-scratching draft pick from the start, he hasn't been good at any level aside from Lowell, and has been clearly overmatched all year in Portland.

Just FYI, the current rules no longer allow draft-and-follow. Instead of holding the player's rights for a year, teams can now only sign a player up until the signing deadline. Unless you mean that colloquially, as in a summer league where they'd get a good look over the next month or something of that nature. I think that's what "draft-and-follow" basically means now. He's got a number he wants them to meet, and they said go play summer ball and we'll talk near the deadline, at which point either side may have moved. More on Selman actually using that language, which probably came from the player but may not have: www.fox8live.com/story/38368460/mcneese-gets-three-drafted-in-2018-mlb-draftI think that's what "draft-and-follow" basically means now. He's got a number he wants them to meet, and they said go play summer ball and we'll talk near the deadline, at which point either side may have moved. Yup, that's what I was getting at. Old school draft and follow seems like forever ago at this point. I actually thought that was kind of a neat rule, but I do also appreciate the new expeditious nature of post-draft signing.

Old for the league at 20 years old (only 38 professional ABs before this season), but an interesting DSL follow: Alexander Martinez. Community college UDFA from 2016. Hitting .357 with 7 2B, 10 SB, and an 18-13 K/BB in 112 AB so far.

I don't think so as Shawaryn projects to be a backend starter or more likely a reliever so I don't see the Red Sox overpaying for him. However, I would think differently if they announced the signing for Quintana before Groome which would signal they are using available slot money (including permitted 5% excess) on post 10th round picks. Yeah, if they sign anybody after round 11 I'd start to worry. I still there's a small chance they squeeze Quintana in, so that wouldn't both excite me and worry me a little bit. Daibec and Groome are getting done. DaLbec, man DaLbec. No "I" in there. Also, Groome's in Boston today per Rotoworld: According to Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald, first-round pick Jason Groome is in Boston to take his physical with the Red Sox. Which is a pretty good indication that the two sides have agreed to terms, or are getting very very close. Groome fell to the Red Sox at No. 12 overall last month due to makeup and signability issues. The 17-year-old left-hander from New Jersey has already turned down a well-over-slot offer from the Sox, but it looks like the two sides will have something finalized soon.

The signing deadline's been moved up in recent years to the third Friday in July, which is the 15th this year.

Interesting note: The DSL Reds are listed as the "DSL Rojos" in the Box Score, while the Sox (Medias Rojas, right?) are still listed as the DSL Red Sox.

Kukuk removed after 1.1 after giving up a home run. Interesting. Wasn't there a rain delay? Yup. Saw the rain delay as well.

A high school catcher needs some work on his defensive technique? The horror! Denney's scouting reports seem very similar to Jon Egan, right down to raw catching ability and inconsistent ability to make contact, He was a 2nd pick in 2005 who signed for $625,000. www.soxprospects.com/players/egan-jonathan.htmNot to pile on here, but in addition to what Chavo said, Jon Egan also had pretty major discipline issues, which is a very large reason as to why he washed out of pro baseball so quickly. Perhaps I just haven't heard, but I don't think Denney has had any notable issues with receiving instruction or behaving appropriately.

Robby Scott's last 20.1 IP: 3.10 ERA, 17H, 17-9 K/BB, 2HRA, 1.2 GO/FO.
Such a weird career path too, going from GCL to Lowell in 2011, back to the GCL in 2012, then up to Salem in 2013.

"Interesting to know if Bane caused this change in draft philosophy though." -- I don't know what this means. What change in draft philosophy? And who is Bane? Eddie Bane is a highly regarded scout most known for signing Mike Trout, and currently serves as a special assistant to the GM for the Sox. I would imagine he's serving in the same capacity as Allard Baird did before his promotion. Also an interesting tidbit I just learned from a quick google search: his brother Dan is the CEO of Trader Joe's.
