Wacha off the board to the Royals (not that he was an option for us), but another one gone none the less.

It feels like everything is heading towards a boiling point one way or another in the next 3-4 days. Whether we land Yamamoto or not in, the Red Sox need to have at least one of these free agent pitchers locked up in the next few days or else the panic and frustration level is going to reach a boil. Names are coming off the board fast and being left without one of the musical chairs is not an option.

I just have a gut feel that we are and should be the favorites for Yamamoto. When you break it down team by team:
Boston: Needs to and will make a splash. Have the biggest need and a done of money to spend. Rumored to be out on Ohtani. Need Yamamoto and Montgomery (or a trade candidate)
NYY: Seem to be focused on bats. Putting pieces together it doesn't seem like they will be spending as big as people have been speculating. Already have a bunch of massive contracts and a lot of money tied up to the pitching staff.
LAD: If they get Ohtani I can't seem them spending the money on Yamamoto as well
NYM: They are definitely the team to worry about, but from reading their writers it seems like they are taking a more long term approach towards development and mid-tier rotations options. I think it probably comes down to NYM and Red Sox.
Cubs: I just think the Red Sox can outbit them significantly.
In my opinion it comes down to the Red Sox and Mets. Given the Red Sox history with Japanese players, having Yoshida on the team, and the fact he would immediately become the face of the franchise player. I think the Red Sox make by far the most sense and should be the favorites.

This would be a very uninspiring hire and one that would not go over well. I do think we are going to see a wide range of candidates and ones off the radar. MLB also has rules for interviewing minority candidates for all major opening. So, I'm sure the Red Sox have some level of interest in him as a candidate, but they are also complying by MLB rules by interviewing him.

In terms of Mike Hazen, I know Gammons isn't the most reliable anymore, but it's been pretty clear for the last 10 years or so that he has a close, personal, and almost familial relationship with Mike Hazen. Until Gammons comes out (or someone more reliable than Nightengale), I think that is still in play. Gammons tweet him out this morning along with Gomes and Fuld as great candidates who know the market if they can be had.

FWIW, listening to Carrabis' podcast... He said teams and agents didn't want to pick up the phone when Bloom called. Agents and teams had little respect for him. Said Red Sox had a deal to trade Alex Verdugo to Houston that broke down at the deadline. There was another trade where Chris Sale was going to be flipped that fell apart over prospects. Team felt Paxton was going to break down at the trade deadline and had a deal to send him to the Dodgers, but Bloom didn't like the prospects they were getting in return. What podcast is this from. Is it his latest DraftKings one?

Houston ends the draft with Pascanel Ferreras, who interestingly enough is ranked #500 in the BA Top 500.

Interesting Day.. I actually think Nelly Taylor (11th Round) will be overslot by maybe 100k. I also think one of Schlaegel/Orloski signs.

I knew Stanley Tucker's name sounded familiar. He was ranked #329 by Baseball America in last year's Top 500 after his season at New Mexico Junior College.

It's pretty interesting they haven't drafted a single High School player since Round 3, Antonio Anderson.

This is like two years in a row the Red Sox are really in-line with the types of Prospects Joe Doyle rankings. I think both this year and last they picked the highest drafted player from his board not showing up on the BA Top 500.
