I know the AL OF wasn't overflowing with offensive talent this year, but did JD really need to win the award there and at DH? They could have given another guy some recognition.

The Patriots are close to a deal for Gordon, per Rapoport.

Reports are that he's being released due to a combination of his hamstring and the team not knowing if they can count on him. Assuming that's true, and he's not looking at another suspension, the Pats have basically nothing to lose by going after him.

I'd be perfectly okay with this being the only free agent singing the Sox make for a long time. Try to resign as many your own players from this point on. Start with Pomeranz. Has a potential Pomeranz extension been discussed in another thread? I would love to hear some opinions on that.

What's next? 7 years for Moustakas?
Is there any indication that the Padres weren't bidding against themselves?

Cubs go 6-year $150 million on Darvish? No thanks. The guarantee is for 126, with incentives up to 150. How is he worth less than what Lester got from the SAME TEAM?

Frazier to the Mets possibly takes them out of the running for Núñez. Still a player I’m hoping returns. Definitely makes it less likely that Nunez goes to the Mets. 2/17 seems like a fair contract. Frazier is good, but he's not a game changer. Hopefully this signing kicks off the rest of FA. /s

Well, you can't win them all. It seemed like the defense was barely trying.

The defense has been flat out horrible, the offense hasn't capitalized. Gostkowski hasn't done the job. But the bottom line is if the defense doesn't do drastically better the Eagles will win the Super Bowl. Agreed. Defense is underperforming, and the offense isn't doing much to help. At this point it will be 100% the Pats' fault if they lose this game.

That attempted pass from Amendola to Brady would have been epic.

Signing Chris Hogan two years ago has to be one of the most underrated moves in recent history. Every time he touches the ball, I expect him to get at least 15 yards.

Domingo Santana a fall back if JDM doesnt sign? Brewers shopping him. A 3.0 WAR but a young cheap power bat. I don't see how he's a fallback. There's several reasons a trade wouldn't work/doesn't make sense, but the main one is that the Sox don't need an outfielder. Yes, they need offense; but, acquiring Santana pushes someone to DH, which doesn't make any sense.

Why does an offer, the offer, or any offer need to be take it or leave it?
All reports suggest that JDM wants to play the outfield. We all know he's a garbage defender, and maybe he does too, but that's what he wants to do. All reports indicate that he wants to be an OF.
The logic of 'he's doing less work, he doesn't deserve more money' makes absolutely no sense. It seems far more likely that he is willing to earn *less* money, just so he can do what he wants.
James nailed it. He has a right to wait for an offer that he not only likes, but also allows him to play the field as well.

I used to be, but a few years ago I really wanted to go home to watch a game at Fenway on my birthday. So I convinced myself that the fear was worth it. After take off, I was totally fine. Wasn't nervous coming back, and I've been fine since then.

Thanks for posting that article. I was too lazy to post it earlier. Machado is clearly valuable, but is one year of him really worth 2 years of Xander? I don't understand where these Xander+ proposals are coming from. Why in the world would the O's want to package Machado with Trumbo or O'Day? If they're looking to dump salary it isn't with those two players. It's with Chris Davis. There's no doubt they would rather ditch Davis and his 115M owed, instead of dumping Trumbo and O'Day, who are owed ~44.5M over the next two years.

Am I the only one who saw "Rangers and Diamondbacks" and "talks involve Zack Greinke," in the same sentence? It makes sense, I guess, but even if they dump salary, how can they possibly replace his value right now?

I have a comment that (shockingly) isn't Stanton related.
Neal Huntington said today that, "getting [Jung Ho Kang] back would be huge."
Am I the only one who assumed he was never coming back? He couldn't get a work visa due to legal issues, said issue being his *THIRD* DUI in South Korea. I get that he helped the Pirates, but why would they want someone like that on their team?

Stanton and Judge in the same lineup is a scary thought. They combined for 111 homers last year, a mere 17 less than the entire Giants roster hit. No wonder SF wanted Stanton so much.
Edit: Incorrect numbers.
