When can we do the “Yamamoto sucks” dance?

Everything else aside… Houck SO. Crawford dealing. Now 6 1-hit innings from Bello? The three home-grown musketeers. After decades of futility, they suddenly look like the Braves. You are referring, of course, to Spahn and Sain and Vern Bickford. Who else?

Thanks! I hadn’t. Definitely rooting for the guy.

Thank God. After Bernardino, this was the 2nd most logical move to make on the pitching staff. Wait… I don’t follow this that closely… why are we thanking god for a 31-year old who was in the Indy league 2 years ago and had almost a 5 ERA last year? Not being snarky… I see he throws hard. Is something different?

Breslows says he doesn't think Pivetta will be out for much longer than the IL stint, if that. Called the strain "mild". The IL stint is retroactive to April 6th, so with no news yet about Pivetta's return it seems that progress here has been slower than the team anticipated... “Flexor strain” always sounds like the crack of doom to me. Obviously I hope I’m wrong, especially because Pivetta is on the cusp of a big payday.

That is the best Sox game I’ve watched in forever. Houck has given me a warm feeling.

This is the most impressive performance I’ve seen from a sox starter in a long time. The efficiency!!! And it comes at such a needed moment in the season. Is Tanner the ace?

Can't believe we got 6 years of control of Wong + 6 WAR from Verdugo + Fitts, Weissert, and that other guy I forget for just Mookie's covid season! Meh… I’d trade the whole package for “No, No Nanette”

Wong’s power never ceases to surprise me. He looks tiny, but he hits legitimate bombs.

Honestly, rehashing every bad trade might be more exciting than watching the 4-9 hitters tonight. Do you a moment for my Bagwell gripes….?

Serious question: Duran seems a fixture now. Rafaela is at least going to keep getting a chance because of his glove. O’Neil will be back soon and is good. So… if Abreu gets going a bit, is there any thought to having Masa ride pine? I’m not sure their is an arrangement that gives you your best lineup that he is in. Does Masa have options? I'd rather he get AB so he has a chance to figure it out Yeah, they’ll have to keep running him out there. And maybe he’ll get hot. But for now, I’m happier with Abreu in the lineup.

Dang we've gotta reset the Days Since Someone Complained About the Mookie Trade for no Reason counter Not no reason: answering the Verdugo question.

Does anybody else miss Dugie? Has more WAR than any position player on the Sox outside of Tyler O'Neill (and tied with Duran). O'Neill/Duran/Verdugo outfield would actually be pretty solid Only thing I miss about Verdugo is my regular calculations of how he, Wong, and Downs are doing compared to Mookie. How is Duggie doing right now? 0.3 bWAR. Mookie… er…. 2.2 bWAR in 20 games. Is that good?

Alex Cora said Devers has a chance to play DH tonight Huh. What kind of a world is it that moving Raffy from 3b to DH likely makes the defense worse? (Unless they just bench Masa).

He has not been the problem (though 80% success rate as a closer *is* a problem), but he could and likely would be if the team were actually in need of a closer. Or, put differently, at 80% (and ever shaky), over a season what would he cost them? But fortunately for him, they are bad in ways that he can be bad but remain irrelevant. It's a 5 game sample. Last year he was 88% and you literally can't get closer to 88% over five attempts than 4/5 lol It is a 7 game sample. His WHIP is 1.8. You say he is not the problem, but he has been terrible. My point is he is not the problem partly because it is all relative, and others have botched things before he could.

On the subjects of killing the team… Masa is now at .3 fWAR for his Sox career. -0.3 fWAR and bWAR for the season.
Can’t hit. Unplayable in the field. Too highly paid to bench?
If Raffy can hit but is a little hobbled, can they DH him when they have a DH-only FA signing burning a hole in the lineup?

The thing I like about Jansen is how he complained about the team not being competitive, but then ended up being a big reason why they're not so far this year. He has blown exactly one save. He is not the problem.
And .500 over 18 games given the awful injury luck and winnable nature of many of the losses sure looks competitive to me.
